Last week while deerhunting, I got a chance to play with one of these. I thought I was fair at estimating distance but was proven badly wrong several times. Anyone own one of these and know of any problems, accuracy, etc.? I have seen one priced at $300.

I have used one the last two years elk hunting and at the range. No problems and great accuracy.

Started with a Bushnell 400 rangefinder and for groundhogs it lacks power . . . would often find I could not range a groundhog some 250 to 300 yards away due to lack of adequate return signal. Was useful, but not really adequate for my varmint hunting addiction.

Replaced the 400 with a Compact 800 and solved the problem. Have ranged groundhogs and crows at ranges between 550 and 650 yards which is farther than I can reliably hit them. So, the 600 should be great for deer or elk hunting.

Both of my units were totally reliable and had no inherent problems. Also, easy on batteries.

Lots of luck!

I also had a Bushnell 400 and replaced it with the 800 and love it.

Actually I usually use it while playing golf to find out various yardages such as to clear a water hazard or the exact yardage to the pin.

My golf buddies hate me and this thing has far and away paid for itself in golf bets! (Of course it is not legal for tournament play).

How fast you want to go depends on how much money you have to spend.

Sniper308, are you saying you don't let your buddies use it on the course? lol

Heck no! They can walk off their distances to the nearest sprinkler head!

The first one I had (400 model) I used while playing with Joe Oligivie, (former Nike Player, now on the PGA Tour,) who liked it so well he and his caddy bought it, and are still using it to mark off distances prior to playing a tournament.

Well, it's live and learn. I would have never thought this would be used on the golf course. After the vaseline on the driver didn't work, I retired from golf. lol My problem was never estimated distance. Go get em Sniper.
