So I live in a dry area with brush that can grow very thick, what would you guys recommend for clearing paths through brush like this:

I have been using a hatchet, which works for larger branches, but is useless for the thinner ones.

A brush axe. They were designed for that stuff.

14-16 inch tram-most of that dry stuff will snap at the trunk if you wack it fast with the spine of the machete, won't even have to use the edge until you get to greener stuff. Nice and light. Typically carry one in addition to an axe, when you get to camp you can give your bushcrafting apprentice the 6 dollar machete to go get fire material or you can use it for drawknifing if you're crafting something cool.
