I closed my engraving service - i thank the folks who have bought from me over the years. I did my best - it just wasn't good enough.

God bless

I've never had any work done by you, but when I saw you post a few days ago that you were considering shutting down I hoped someone might have been able to talk you out of it. I'm saddened to see your amazing work slip away, I hope everything works out for you now and in the future.

I too am saddened by the increasing decline of fine craftsmanship these days; seems like everyone just wants to shop at places like Wal-Mart :thumbdn:

May the new year bring prosperity and good fortune to you and yours, Mr.Hudson.

x1, I'm always ready to pay for quality, and in the same breath want to save a buck doing it..... :)

but I don't want to buy anything twice..

Sad to here you're throwing in the towel, I hope you reconsider as said above guys like you just don't come around everyday!! You offer a service most of us stand in awe over, and I doubt your best wasn't good enough but rather maybe the markets just a little sluggish for engraving... don't know but I wish you the best!!

take care,

It's more of a sign of the economic times. Custom engraving can be extremely beautiful, but the cost can be too much to bear for many especially now. Best wishes.

It took you a long time to figure out it wasn't working!
How did you eat for the last 40 years?

Best wishes in your endevours, but as I posted in your recent thread about shutting down, concider downsizing your business into a hobby. Don't take on any orders, but rather work at your own chosen speed.

Chances are as time goes on, the bug will bite you, and you will find yourself spending leisure time in your shop, which can be rewarding and often produces the best workmanship, since the pressure is off, and creativity is free to flow.

Take care, I hope to see you around here on the forums

I wish I'd known about your services. Why do I always find out about the good stuff when it is no longer available?

Tom- I guess we're not talking you out of leaving.... but your best was amazing. It was stellar. It wasn't not good enough. I've never had an engraving of yours, but from what I see, those engravings are top notch.

Wasn't good enough? The engraving I saw of yours knocked my damn eyeballs out!

It's hard now for all knifemakers and craftsmen, but don't ever say your work isn't good enough. It's just simply not true.
