Busse and crawfish

I spent the week with my wife and kids camping in Northern Michigan. The lake we were camping on is great for Smallmouth Bass fishing and loaded with crawfish. The large crawfish are down about 8' to 9' under timber and rocks.I discovered a great way to catch crawfish. You give them two options, a FSH or a blue net. They all chose the blue net and the blue net went into a large bowl of boiling water with two children waiting with their cocktail sauce.

I have only gone crawdad fishing once in a fresh water stream. We caught about 100 of them using only sticks, string and a piece of bacon. Put the bacon in the water, wait till they grab it, then just pull the pole out of the water, and put them in a bucket.

We were going to have a crawdad boil, but one of the guys in the group forgot the bucket in the car in the summer. Then the bucket of crawling crawdads was a bucket of nasty dead, stinky crawdads.

Wired 45, thats a HUGE crawfish, I would not want to be pinched by that one, that got crawfish here but they dont get any bigger than 4-5 inches.

These would be the crawfish of the southern variety. Really, the fishing "stamp" for lobster in Florida is called the "crawfish stamp".

Mainly Largemouth in the creek in front of house, but there are also plenty of Smallmouth and Redeye Bass.

I see the crawfishing was good, but did you catch many Bass?

The Smallmouth fishing was slower than usual but we still caught quite a few with the biggest being 3.3 lbs. Usually over the coarse of the week we get one over 5 lbs. I guess they prefered crayfish over our lures.
