This is somewhat derivative of Lachine's post of his AS and Sebenza. I thought Dwayne's comment regarding the suitability of other knives when a fixed blade just won't cut it (har har) really hit the mark. I went through my meager collection and took some photos of my three main folders and appropriate Busse counterparts.
First off is my EDC: The Benchmade 3100 Automite. This is a great "gentleman's knife" and generally flies under the radar that frowns on switchblades (legal to own in Idaho, another reason this state rocks). I do occasionally get raised eyebrows when I deploy it. My cub scouts think it is cool.
I bought the AS on a whim. I haven't gotten around to getting a sheath for it, but will eventually. The handle wrap is "skinned" paracord left over from a Hideaway knife purchase (I was an early adopter of the badge sheath concept until work freaked out about the knife).
Next is general utility, lead with my Benchmade/Blackwood Skirmish (630). This gets shoved in the left front pocket of my jeans whenever I go out (the Automite goes in the watch pocket on the right). It is big and strong and I like the shape of the grip. The S30V holds an edge well and is not too difficult to sharpen.
When I am out in the woods, I carry the BA3. I love this knife. It is easily my most used Busse. 'Nuff said. I should note that there have been discussions about turning one of these into a folder (Matt Cucchiara, right?). Notice that the Skirmish actually has a larger blade. I don't think the folding BA3 would be too outrageously large.
Last is sort of silly. I bought the Camillus Cuda Maxx 7.0 on a whim because I liked the idea of a monster folder. There was no other justification needed. Once I got it, however, it really grew on me. I use it as a camping kitchen knife. The length of the blade and slim profile (.125") make it an excellent slicer and the D2 steel is pretty low maintenance for non-stainless steel. To top it all off, it has a built-in sheath!
The EU17 is a recent purchase (thanks PorkGunner!) and hasn't seen any use in the field. But I love the shape and size of the blade and really find the handle shape to be the most ergonomic of all the Busses I own. We'll see how it compares with a fusion handle shortly, I hope.
