going on a comment from papathud, i started carrying the basic 3 for use in anything that would destroy a blade, prying off rust, breaking apart sealed equipment, bussting off ice, etc

and i have been quite impressed/happy with it

BUT, for the sake of comparison, what do you think would make for a better pry bar,

the basic 3,
or the meaner street?

their specs are pretty much identical, except that you have 3 thickness to choose from with the mrs.

wich would be better at the normal thicknesses? (.25 on the basic 3, .220 on the mrs)

and would it be better (as a prybar) to get the mrs. in 3/8th? is that to much for general penetration/insertion to be a better prybar then .220?

also, resiprene c vs. micarta and full tang for prying?

Basic # 3 hands down,,,no contest.

But the Straight SteelHeart is the prybar winner.

Oh, you said meaner street,,my bad,,I got no exp with that one yet :footinmou

sharpened prybar is the reason i bought a busse in the first place. ;)
but of the two knives mentioned i would want the basic because they don't cost as much but i think the .220 meaner street would be the best overall cuz it seems like the resiprene c would be damaged more easily such as separating from the tang. just my .02 cents

I'd save my knife for cutting and get a $5 prybar that will never have problems for the rest. But that's just me. :D

:D
75,

Think of it as a test.

What can you do with it, when you do not really need it.

To let you know just how far you can push it when you do.

prybars pry different then a knife anyways

"I'd save my knife for cutting and get a $5 prybar that will never have problems for the rest. But that's just me. "

to be honest, id just end up making a knife out of it, and then using that knife as a prybar :p

and i carry 5 blades on my person, 4 in my bag, and 1 in my jacket, as well as 3 in my trunk, so one of those is gonna get used for a prybar, cuase i dont cut that much material, and the 10+ HI khukuries i have in my closet for heavier work....

hey seth, infi does the body good but 50lbs might be a bit much :p ;)

prybar, but if you need to cut something take a busse, less weight ;)

Mr. Skunk;

As a union carpenter for 23 years I have had ample chances to use and evaluate prybars.

I have at this moment in time more than a few Busse knives that weigh more than several different prybars that I own

I value highly my Busse sharpened prybars,,,not for everyday use as a prybar
but for those few times where the Busse may be all I have with which to try to do the job.

The deep belly for the length of the #3 gives me plenty of confidence.

Using a Busse as a prybar is easy,,,try driving tent pegs,,,or nails even,,,,that can be a bit tough(I like to use the back of the knife for these uses)for these uses Bigger is better ;)

maybe so papa... maybe so....

but you won't catch me abusing my busse that way  ;)

Mr.Skunk,

Sorry, I did not mean to pry into your own private abuses.

I understand that what happens between a consenting adult and his or her knives is none of my busse-ness

Carry on.
