The missus and I made the trek up Mt Warning this morning. Mt Warning, the Southern hemisphere's largest extinct shield volcano, is the highest point on the east coast of Australia. Because of this, it gets the very first rays of light for the day on the Australian continent. I can say with certainty that I was the first person to see day break in Australia today. Here's some pics. Excuse the quality. I'm no photographer and it's just a point and shoot camera:

It was freezing. The wind chill factor would have pushed it below zero degrees centigrade.

For relevance, here's some shots of my Busse SAR-3 that also made the journey. It lives in a Martin Swinkels kydex sheath molle lok'd to a Camelbak H.A.W.G. I had Martin sharpen it to a mirror finish.

I really couldn't believe how well it cut. Those vines are like wire rope.

Pics of some of the flora. These trees have been around before European settlement in Australia.

So....Mount Warning huh? Sounds..... romantic ;)

Very cool Chris! I have to make that hike some day/early morning. It looks gorgeous! Thanks for sharing.

Nothing romantic about Mt Warning, M67 :). Here's a pic of part of the climb (on the way back down).

Yeah Rob, this one was on my Bucket List. Had to get out of bed at 1:30am though to make it to the summit in time. Now is the best time of year to do it. If you did it in Summer you simply wouldn't bother going to bed the night before.
