I would post a pic, but I don't have the ability...
anyhow...

Saw the picture at www.badmojo.tv
The MEGALONDON AXE?!?!

The site mentioned this beast may be available as a production piece...any thing you would like to share, Mr. Busse!? :D

It is truly an awesome piece. He made the release annoucement during death chat. I think swamp rat did their own copy of the original....

Crowinghorse,

Yeah, how's that for a nightmare come true!  . . . and I'm just talkin' about making it!!!!;) I had made something like it many, many moons ago and I still twitch when I think about it!

This blood thirsty hawk has over 10 or 11 inches of cutting edge. It is simply the most violent design I have ever seen on a fighting hawk. I designed it with ONLY ONE application in mind, that of hand-to-hand combat. If you took that puppy campin' it would probably go out and hunt grizzlies at night or attack you while you slept!

We've been fine tuning the design for better use. Shouldn't be too much longer. . . . Didn't think that many people would get excited about such a vicious piece of equipment, but the response has been enormous. FREAKS!!!!!

I'd like to see it come out through Swamp Rat Knife Works in order for it to be more affordable to the only possible real world users, troops who are in the thick of it!!!!!!

Keep checking in here and over at the Swamp Rat forum for updates.

Nuke On!

Jerry

Freaks?!! You're the one who came up with that beast! YOU!!!! And I love it!!!!!!

Now, make it 3/8" and I'm in HOG heaven!!!!

I know that I don't need it for it's original design purpose, but I just HAVE to get one of those. They are just too cool to pass up! :D

I have become a big fan of the hatchet/tomahawk/axe as both a weapon and tool. I did not carry my Busse in the war (go easy Mr. Busse! :D ) but carried a ATC Brend Hatchet instead of a fixed blade.
The spike can be used for breaching and puncturing and the primary edge can be used to cut damned near everything and anything.

I love the way this axe looks, but I'm not exactly sure how you would utilize the top serrations...

What steel is the Swam Rat version made from? What price are we talking about? I love the look of the spike on that thing, but the cutting edge just looks...well...odd...(in a good way!) :D

That and the hand-hold under the head looks like the fingers belong to a BIG man (I have small hands myself and would have to spread my fingers to grip it right).

I don't care if it's not designed for thowin', if I get one, I'm a throwin' it. I throw whatever I get my hands on. :)

I want one because it's nifty. End of story!

I just want one to carry into battle!!

Honestly, I don't really like the blade design...hear me out...

I LOVE the lines, true, but there are a few things I would change.
Starting from bottom to top:
1) Add skull crusher pommel.
2) Add a better handle (maybe a palm swell or single finger grip type handle)
3)Get rid of the finger grooves below the head.
4)The hooking edge (beak) isn't really a "hooking" edge. Needs to be sharpened in order to catch, hook, and cut...
5) I still don't understand the serrations on the top thing. HOW would you use these?

That...that's about it...:D :p

I do love the spike though. That and the shear SIZE of the head. There is a lot of @$$ behind this thing and it would pulverize anything it came in contact with...
Put a 16" handle on it, and make the modifications I mentioned and it would be awesome!

Sarge,

I'm not completely sure 'cause it's not my design, but I think I understand why the serations are there.

Seems to me that a "slashing" cut or a "short" cut would be enhanced by the serations. I'm thinking this because no one is gonna just stand there and get cut, they're gonna try to move back.

Additionally, with a "short grip", the serrations could be used on rope or other fiberous material. Mind you, I don't have one and haven't had the opportunity to evaluate, but these are my suspitions.

Let us not forget the "cool factor" as well. Let's face it, steel is intimidating to most folks, and this puppy certainly fills the bill!

PS. Glad you're still kickin' Jess!

Jerry,

Will the SR version have holes in the tang so folks like our friend here can add scales aftermarket? Just a thought.

Oku,
Glad to see you on the boards :D! Did you ever email my wife about possible pics or using the story of me using your sheath during my first deployment? If you need pics, I can get my wife to email them to you, no sweat...

back to the main issue:
You are right, if I saw that thing being swung at me, I would move! (and quick!) but don't think those are the primary reason they are on top. I wonder if Jerry would fill us in on the purpose. If causing "mass trama" was the case, they could be put on the near edge of the hook and used there (then they could also be used in a utility sense as well!) The way they are place looks cool as hell, but their actual use there is what I question...

I realize the finger grips are there for better control, but I always cord wrap (Strider style) my bare blades (like the ATC Brend Hatchet or request handle slabs. I personally prefer a palm swell or single finger grip handle to any other. (a vented handle would be great to allow for cord wrapping).

Anyhow, no matter what I say, it will sell like hot cakes! It is by far one of the coolest looking weapons I have ever seen...just trying to add my $2.67 worth to its "utility." Glad to see Busse/Swamp Rat making a hatchet/axe though...had I known, I may have held off on my Lance Hawk...ok, probably not...:D ;)
