Absolutely. A balisong is pretty much the strongest kind of folder you can get, so if Busse make a folder, it should be a balisong. But not a slim little thing for twirling, a robust blade for real use.

I really like this Marlowe design (just as an example of a balisong made for real use), but I couldn't bring myself to spend $1500 on a knife with a 154CM blade.

Nay. We don't need a toy.

BRS, Hom Design, and several custom Makers have perfected balisongs.

Why try to reinvent the wheel?

Why not. I tried to learn a few tricks on a trainer but only got around the world down before losing interest

A titanium-handled balisong with a blade similar to this modified B4 (perhaps a bit longer) would be very nice.

Yep. I'd get one. Probably wouldn't have to worry about damaging the tip, which is a fairly common occurrence with the manufacturers listed above.

That is a nice blade shape. I would prefer it in a folder, over a balisong. Also the price of a Busse balisong would make me wonder “what other BUSSE could I buy for this price instead “

A balisong is a folder - the most reliable kind as there is no locking mechanism that can wear or slip. And there’s no intrinsic reason a balisong should be more expensive than another type of folder.

Benchmade tried to make a utility- oriented balisong, the BM53, based on the Marlowe Badger (like the pic you posted) design. It failed miserably.

NZ, Oz, Canada, several Euro countries and American States don't allow gravitational knives.

Regarding the folder vs bali cost thing:

Why do Busse knives, with coated blades and, sometimes, lotsa greeblies under that coating, cost more than a similar-sized Survive GSO with a nicely finished 3V or M390 blade?

Balisongs loosen a lot with lots of use and after a few years the ones I have had, feel like crap. Id rather have a frame lock.

Well, I'd rather pay more for a Busse, and actually receive a knife!!!

Survive will take my money, and deliver excuses for the next 5 years.....

That might...just might account for a price difference.

Hey....you're supposed to read between the lines. That's why I double space...........

What I'm saying is: By the time we look at Channel construction and over-sized pivots for strength, fitting the pivots to ten thousandths to eliminate slop, yet, retain free blade movement and ensuring a smooth, even tang area for the pivots/washers/bushings to ride inside of carefully machined/finished handles, well.......

we're talking about an $800+ balisong......and.....thick coatings will not work.

The best knife is one that does not fold....

and, besides all that.....the pivots will get super-gritty after only an hour, or two, of cutting open rocks to see what's inside

:D

The BM53 was too small and felt uncomfortable in hand. The Bradley Mayhem (also made by Benchmade) was a much better design, but is also discontinued. It’s pretty much the only knife that I still have two of.
