I've really found my style of knives in these two companies. Semi-custom limited production, American made, smaller companies with good warranties and owners who will address your questions and concerns directly. Good-looking knives that are built to work...

Anyone have any other suggestions of makers/companies I should look at that fall into a similar category and price range?

RAT maybe.

I'd suggest Falkniven but obviously they are not an American company.

Hey Skrapmetal, what part of Iowa are you in?

Des Moines. ;)

I'm not completely opposed to foreign makers, just been on an American-made knife kick lately.

Well, this might be obvious, but the Scrapyards are pretty much cheaper Busses I think.
And RAT, too, is a good one.
Oh, and Condor, too, though I'm not sure where they're based.

Ranger Knives is another good option. The production series used to be made my the owner, Justin Gingrich. Now they are made by Onario, still completely US made. But Justin also still does custom knives which you can usually get cheaper than a Busse. But I will agree with what has also been said here. Busse, Rat Cutlery, Bark River, and Ranger are my favorite fixed blade companies.

Not sure of the price range but I see SRKW/Busse and Ranger thrown in here so I thought I'd add Horton as well. There's also JK and American Kami -got those last two suggestions from another similar thread.

Horton absolutely belongs in there! He makes serious working knives ... extremely high quality for a very reasonable price.

You might also like Andy Roy (Fiddleback). Like Jeremy Horton, you can find him right here on BF.

I'll second Fiddleback Forge. Andy's knives are beautiful, functional, and priced right.
