Other than Ebay, does anyone know where I might find a Busse Basic #5. I have the other models, only missing this one. Thanks.

Mike-
I'm catching up to Andre McD tomorrow. I'll check to see if he has any fives. Price will likely be MSRP, but I'll check and contact you via e-mail.

I know Seth was meant to talk with Andre today but seeing as I can beat him to the punch I will :) At the show today he had the entire basic series in the later "crinkle" coating. I didn't inquire as to the price of the 5 but he told me he was selling his 3 for $150. If I recall that's about $25 more than original retail so I would expect there would be a similar price difference with the 5, but hey, if it completes the set, why not? I am sure that he would be more than happy to help you out ;)

Hope this helps,

Jeff

Not to be a buttinski but the retail price of a basic 3 was 163.99 + shipping so 150.00 for a discontinued knife is fair,Papathud is a very good rep for Busse & always has treated me fairly. The basic 5's are the hardest to find of all the basics so if you find one snap it up.Good luck in your search.

You are a buttinski David :) But seriously, it seems I stand corrected and all for the best because Andre seems to be cutting good deals for discontinued blades. Give him a call because he had one this weekend (might be gone but who knows how many he has stashed away). Thanks David!

Steelhed,
I hope you are able to pick one of these up. Great knife, perfect size for everyday carry also. ;):)

And it would be nice if you were able to finish your Basic Set. Let us know what happens :)

Thanks, Guys. Surfing Ronin, I was out of town over the weekend and missed the bid on your link, but thanks again anyway. You snooze you loose. I will contact Papathud.

I bought the whole set of Basics but if I had to give up one, it would be the 5. I don't mind the small grip on the 3 because it's for detail work. However, the same grip on the 5 doesn't feel adequate to me(and I have relatively small hands). I much prefer the 7. Although I'm not planning to get rid of the 5, I use the 7 and 3 a lot more (even the 9). I hope you find a 5 to complete your set but unless your hands are very small, I doubt it will get more use than your 7. Best of luck.

That's the only one I really didn't mind selling. The handle was pretty small and goofy for my hand. For smaller hands, it's hard to beat. My girlfriend loves her Basic 3, though I don't find it very comfortable to use (especially when I've got a Mean Street as backup:p)

Anywho, if you are still having a hard time finding a 5 there's a shop in town that has a few new 3's, 7's, 9's, and may have a 5 laying around. He's got On-Scene sheaths with most of them as well.
Shoot me a note if you want me to double check for you.

Semi-interesting trivia:

The Basic 5 was by far the most popular of all of the Basics followed by the Basic 9, Basic 7, and far, far behind was the Basic 3.

Hmmmmmm. . . . what does that tell you?. . .

Nuke on!

Jerry,

Thanks for the interesting information. I'm not sure exactly what it tells me----perhaps that a lot of people ordered 5s by mail after reading about the extremely versatile blade size and handy overall length/weight. Perhaps that a lot of purchasers had smaller hands than I do. Maybe that users were willing to make the smaller handle work for them because they liked the other dimensions so much.

When I initially purchased the entire set of Basics, I also assumed that the 5 would get the most carry. It was only after using them a lot that I came to prefer the 7's grip. However, I'm keeping the 5 in case my next girlfriend needs a knife that would be close to perfect for someone with smaller hands than mine.

By the way, I REALLY like the 3 for field dressing game. It is convenient for work inside the body cavity and great for skinning. If for some unforeseen reason I didn't have the 7 with me, it would also be sturdy enough to bust joints, pelvic bone, etc.

Thanks again.
