I am thinking about picking up a Busse Basic 7 does it have infi steel and the same heat treat all busses get or does it have a lesser steel or heattreat?

M-INFI. You'll never know the difference. The Basic-7 is probably one of the best Busse designs ever. If I didn't have a Boss Jack with full choil, I'd still own my B7.

What exactly is the difference? how does it compare to sr-101 and s-77? and would it preform noticably different when used for abusive stuff like cinderblock chopping and stabbing 55 gallon drums? I don't plan to but I am curious.

I think M-INFI has less Cobalt in it. It was a cheaper version of INFI with 95% of its performance. It eventually became just as expensive as INFI to produced so was phased out. Noss Destroyed a Basic 9. Check Youtube for Noss Busse Basic 9 Destruction Test.

Is the sheath leather or nylon?& is the scrapyard son of dog father LE for 200$ or the basic 7 a better deal?

I have seen them with leather, nylon, and kydex. I have personally had one with leather and kydex that had a box but they could have swapped it out. The SODLE is a sweet knife and when I sold mine it went for $250 so that's a good deal too. Just depends on your budget.

I can afford either although buying the busse would take care of all my christmas money I kinda want something I go out in the woods with yet still want something that will keep its value. I like the leather sheathed busse and the noss4 test suggests it has a tough edgebut I also kinda hate blowing all my money at once. Though of course the SOD is a limited editions so id have problems with using it.

M-INFI is certainly a superior steel compared to S7.

You can search the Exchange for past sales, using the keyword 'basic'. The Basic 7 does not come up all that often, but there are some listed. Only you can decide if the asking price is a good value to you. If you intend to use it, and can be patient, you might wait for a used one to come up, the price should be somewhat lower. Or post a WTB for a user.

IMO the Basic 7's are so rarely offered if you have the chance then get it .... the asymetrical edge is a great plus .... it needs sharpening differently to a normal V edge but it sharpens twice as fast because basically you just need to use a ceramic rod on the flat V side and a couple of sweeps on a strop on the convex side .... and the edge lasts a long time ..... the apex does'nt roll easily with this design and is noticeable to me because I use a lot of my Busse knives side by side with each other and the ASM edge on the Basic's is a much longer lasting one ....
