Hello, i have a dumpster mutt LE with busse basic grips of course and was wondering if the standard dumpster mutt grips are basically the same profile or if they are different. I want to get a new sheath and found a standard dumpster mutt kydex sheath and want to be sure its compatable. thanks in advance.
chris.

I think that they are different. Seems to me that the Scrapyard handles are a little bigger than the Busse Basics.

Scrap Yard's standard res-c handles are larger than the basic line's, but the DM has a smaller handle than normal. I would say they are the same. Could be wrong though.

the original Dumpster Mutt had the basic res c grips on it. The newer models had a little larger grips.

The Res-C grips come in two sizes. The Basic 3 and 5 used the smaller, shorter grip than the 7, 9, and 11.

The story is that as the original mold was reworked/cleaned up for use by Swamp Rat and then Scrap Yard it got a little bigger all around.

Not basic grips on this mutt, but maybe this will help.

+1

I have a CG, but never owned the LE or DC. The LE has the same "small" Busse Basic handle as the CG, but the DC has the slightly larger or at least roomier Res-C handle used on the Yard Keeper which was the same handle as on the Howling Rat. The Res-C handle on the DMDC, Yard Keeper and Howling Rat is still a smaller handle than those used on most of the Busse and kin knives with 6" or larger blades.

If you have large hands (I do), you might find the "small" Busse Basic Res-C handles a bit tight. The other small Res-C handle as used on the DMDC, Yard Keeper and Howling Rat is reasonably roomy for a knife its size - ...for my hands.

In pictures if shown side by side, you would not be able to see much difference in size between the small Busse Basic handle and the small Howling Rat/Yard Keeper handle. Visibly, about the only difference is the ribbing at the front of the Busse Basic handle and the raised ridge around the parameter of the sides of the Busse Basic handle. But, in hand, the Busse Basic feels a bit tighter. I think the main difference is in the shaping/contouring of the front and rear guards that makes for a bit different fit/feel.

I still have my DMDC. I have just modified the Busse Basic Res-C handle to make it roomier to fit my hand.

Pretty much +1 on this as well.

From what I have seen and heard, the only thing "Re-worked" on the Busse Basic Res-C handles for Scrap Yard to use them was to remove the "Busse Combat" logo on the sides of the Res-C handle near the guard.
Having sanded Res-C, I assume the Busse logos were just sanded off to be used by Scrap Yard.

You can clearly see the Busse Combat logo in this picture:

Here is a good picture from Andy showing where the logo was removed or "Rubbed off" on the Dumpster Mutt CG:

Also worth noting: The Dumpster Mutt CG is MUCH thicker and more of a "Brute" with a LOT of steel in the blade / saber grind compared to the thinner and full height flat grind LE and DC. The DMCG is unique in being a bit like a sharpened railroad spike. It is not a slicer, but somehow pretty cool. The LE and DC were thinner and full height grind.

(SY) Dumpster Mutt CG (SR-77) (Saber - small Busse Basic handle) ......... = 9.0 ounces; .270" thick; 5.25" blade; 9.75" oal
(SY) Dumpster Mutt LE (SR-77) (full height flat - small Busse Basic handle) = 7.7 ounces; .25" thick; 5.0" blade; 9.5" oal
(SY) Dumpster Mutt DC (SR-77) (full height flat - Yard Keeper handle)...... = 7.7 ounces; .25" thick; 5.0" blade; 9.5" oal

Here are the different Dumpster Mutt variations and related handles:
