I just aquired a Busse Basic 9 in a trade and it is awesome. I wasn't expecting much but figured I would give it a shot. I must say I was very pleasantly surprised by how much I like it.

My main concern was the handles. I thought they would be too squishy and uncomfortable but they are perfect with just a bit of give. The overall weight of it is also great. I also have a CGFBM and haven't given it much use because I find it rather heavy and the magnum handles uncomfortable. The Basic seems to be more of a machete while the BM is just a brute.

My only caveat is that I am going to feel bad using the Basic because it is in such pristine condition. See for yourselves...

Then go get ya a SRKW Battle Rat with a little luv already on it and you can leave the Basic in the box and Beat The Rat which is what the Basics became... sort of. (i.e. M-INFI +/- = SR101.)

Boy, am I gonna get it for that one!

Well, if your looking to get rid of that horrible CG FBM just shoot me an e mail, I will take it off your hands. Nice basic BTW

Grab the beater Basic 7 on the XC before I get tempted, please! It's used, so you can beat that one and leave the 9 pristine.

I just sold my collection to Mikeymoto b/c I had to downsize my collection. Took me a while to find all 4 blades. They were sweet, but NIB condition. I couldn't use them. Hopefully Mike will. SOMEONE should!

A great knife and vastly undervalued.

If you like the handle you will love this knife.

Do not settle for a lesser swamprat, if you like the handle you will wonder where this knife has been all your life.

I have given away lots of these, I do keep at least one and my Wife has one as well, my Stepson has one and a few Semi Adopted Sons(Men who have kids that call me Grampa) have these as well.

Gratz on a great find.

Basic 9 is my favorite user. I like the handles better than micarta. I wish they were offered as a low cost handle option on any and every Busse I might wish to buy.

Congratulations on your Basic 9! Use it and enjoy it for many years to come. A B9 was my first Busse several years ago. All of the Basics are great knives!

Andre nailed it, especially the undervalued part! I'm amazed the Basics have not gone up more in price, although they seem to be fairly hard to find these days.

The Res-C handles are my favorites for knives that are well used. I too wish they were available as an option on current Busses.

I have a Basic 9 and love it.....the only other knife that feels as good for me is a SHBM but that was a "fleeting" moment for me when I got to handle one....it is as if Jerry had the "ideal" mix of size and weight way back then.....now....the nearest thing for balance and size is a standard FSH...I have two... both D/C with standard black linen handles....they work just as well but the Basic 9 is actually slightly lighter and the shorter depth to the blade works well for me as a "military" knife. You would have less resistance on a "thrust" if you had to use it like that....I like the NMFBM shape compared to the FBM for the same reason....but for fine work the finger choil on the Basic is a bit narrow for a choke hold....you can still use it like that but it is not as comfortable as the FSH...no big thing though.

The next knife I would love is a Basic 5....those two sizes seem perfect for my needs. Again...very hard to find. I deliberated long and hard about buying a complete set of Basic's just to pick out the Basic 5 and maybe a spare Basic 9....but it seemed a bit extravagant....although I kept saying to myself I could have a whole set for less than a SHBM....

If you don't want to use it because it is such a "clean" example with all the bits....the Battle Rat or DFLE are similar but are a bit heavier and the Steel has different properties. If I had that dilemma though I would try and buy a second "user" Basic 9. If I am using the Basic 9 on and off all day....which I have done a few times now ...the Res C handle comes into it's own on comfort....the weight of the knife is also useful because it is light enough to always feel "controlled"....the FSH is the same here too....the NMFBM is a bit more heavy and tiring....so I really rate the Basic 9 as a great all rounder!

Nice Score!!:thumbup::thumbup:
