Ladies and Gentlemen,

Hows it going. I was just wondering how many of you out there enjoy the Busse Basics line. My favorite of the Basics is the #9. I really enjoy working with that knife. How about the rest of you. I am always hearing about the Combat and E lines. Lets hear some Basic line users and stories.

Take care and Happy Holidays.

To tell you the truth I love my Basic 9 and 3. I wished the Combat line came with those handles. I mean why not. The resperine C (spelling) handles are lifetime anyway. Why not put them on the big boys. I wished I had a Busse with a 12 or 13" blade with a basic style handle made of INFI rather than the M-INFI. I love both my battle mistresses the E and the old but that basic nine feels really good in the hand.

I had a Basic #9, but got rid of it to buy a SH-E. I used my Basic to clear my property and really liked that knife. The SH-E has just too big of a handle to fit my hand for extensive chopping. I also think that the full tang gives the handle considerably more weight and takes away from the slightly more "blade heavy" Basic 9 ( I know this is partially due to the 2" shorter blade, but I have played with a few BM's and feel it applies to them as well). It's that blade heavy feel and the smaller resiprene handle that I really like in a chopping knife. The Basic line are my kind of knives, and with the same warranty as the combat line, I don't think you can go wrong with one. I'm not nearly as knowledgable about knives as many on this forum, and this is just my personal opinion. I will buy another Basic #9 before spring!!

The #9 is great. For me, the handle is very comfortable and the angle is set perfectly. The blade has the right weight, length, thickness, and bite. I control it well. IMHO it is a great camp knife, survival knife, and utility knife. I'd like to hear from more people and maybe some of our finest military personel.

I have owned 3 basics, 2 of the 9's. Great knives. Mine have all been given to friends who needed what the knives could do, but were strapped for cash [read, military]. Hard telling where the knives are now, but my buddies loved them, and carried them regularly. One that did some time in south America would have made an excellent advertisement, last I saw it, completely beat to hell, but very, very sharp.

Ever notice friends don't return really nice knives? haha To see if your knife is good, give it to a friend and then see if you get it back

I have lost touch, what is the going price for the 9's now?

A Basic 9 costs $230 at OneStopKnifeShop.com these days. They've got them in plain & serrated modified edges, with both leather & kydex sheaths.

Yours in Basic nuclear appreciation,
Greg

If this is an inappropriate place to post this, I apologize, but I believe AG Russell is offering the #9 for $163 right now.

BTTT. Come on. I need some more input from you guys.

The only Basic that I have is a #7. The only real work that it's done is open a coconut for me and the kids to eat. What suprised me was that the coconut really flattend the edge on my #7 right near the tip. I had a heck of a time getting it sharp again. The prying I did on the coconut didn't effect the #7 in any way that I could tell, even prying with the tip. I sharpened it back up. I also used it to cut off the lower limbs of my sister in-laws Christmas tree. Some of the branches were 2-3 inches in diameter. The only thing the tree cutting did to my knife was get some sap on the blade. I could have used a wood saw but the #7 was handy and much more fun

I also use it in the yard. I don't think that I can hurt this knife. I think that my only regret was that I should have gotten a #9. I think that would have been a better compliment to Mean Street.

I just used my #9 last week to cut up branches from the base of my christmas tree. It was great. My carpet was full of wood chips and branches. It was great. The blade is still sharp. Have not tried the cocanut yet.

I've got a #3 and a #9. While I haven't used the #3 much, the #9 got a hard workout clearing some brush and branches off of an apple tree. Took a little work, but it neatly handled 5 branches that were around 3-4" diameter. It still shaves hair. Can't wait to have an INFI or modified folder.

I have a Basic #5 but no experiences to report as yet. I'm still waiting for a mission to come up where I can use it. In the meantime, I like the blade heavy "balance" and how the handle can be held with a modified saber grip. I feel as though I could cut anything I wanted to with this knife.

Sometimes I feel like carrying it to work but come to my senses and opt for a folder instead. I hear that a Busse folder has moved from "dream status" to real life. I need to learn more about that goodie.

I have a Basic 7 that I am happy with. I used it during my dear and moose hunt this fall to clear shooting lanes and trails. My biggest complaint is the leather sheath that came with it. I have opted for a concealex sheath made by Normark and highly recomend his sheaths.
What types of sheath do the rest of you use?

Ya know I complained about the sheaths to Andy, especially the #3 and #5 leather, so I bought the kydex from him for all my Basic line. Well let me tell ya something. When I went into the woods hunting I was making a $hitload of noise with the kydex and my brother inlaw was getting pissed off with me. So I switched to the leather for the rest of the hunting season. I think the leather for the #7 and #9 are pretty good.

Hey WTF....

Should try one of my sheaths..
They are a High Ride design,so there is no webbing to flap around.
My sheaths lay flat against your body,,and have No straps, snaps or buckles to speak of.

I flip my sheaths over and wear them inbetween my belt and pants.

With the G-clip they are easy on and easy off..No need to remove the belt.

I also have a Pack Attachment Kit (PAK) that allows you to lock the sheah in place on a pack. Place the sheath into the PAK and when you need it, lift the G-clip and removed the entire rig and place on your belt..

Easy as that...
It's a good system that I have been using for quite some time...

I've got the Basic #5, and have used it to limb and then chop down a small (about 4-5") tree, rip apart a partially rotted log. I tested the tip by ramming it repeatedly into a 2x4 and torquing it out. All that was "just to see" after reading some of the tests that Cliff and others did on knives. No damage to the knife. Other than that, it has been used for small chores out in the yard, and usually stays in my truck. I keep planning camping trips, but work keeps interfering, so I haven't had a chance to use it as a "camp" knife.

KevinMillerCan, I use one of Eric's sheaths for my Basic, too. Got one for a BM Nimravus, also. They are excellent!

They look very nice.

I have used the #5. Because I didn' t plan to skin animal with it, I found the blade choil a bit excessive. It takes away from a bit of useful edge, especially when needing to choke up. The blade is a bit on the thick side but is strong enough to do light prying with. I would like to have seen a slight false edge near its tip. The finish held up quite well. And the handle is quite comfortable for my medium size hands. Additionally a hollow grind for this blade size/ thickness would have been a plus. Finally, I don' t care much for the assymetrical grind. But all in all the #5 is a good, dependable rugged blade.
