Are the basics still being made? Can they easily be obtained, and how much are they going for? Are they collectible like the current models? I am curious as I am being offered a couple in trade for another knife I have...

The Basics are no longer being made. They do have
collectability some models more than others. Do
a search on the for sale forums to find an average
price range for most models.

If you run across a Basic 7, grab it and don't look back:p

In my experience it seems like some 3's and 9's are still floating around, while the 5's and 7's are becoming more scarce lately.

Just get 'em! ...you know you want to anyway;):p;)

Since about the beginning of this year the Basics I have seen have sold on average for:
B3 - 130
B5 - 180
B7 - 180
B9 - 190
Most of these were new; some were slightly used. Since the introduction of the Swamp Rat knives, I think the average price has probably dropped a bit. I agree with Strabs – the Basic 5's & 7's seem harder to find/more desirable. The Basics are great knives!

Thanks guys! Of course I want as much INFI or in this case M-INFI as possible... but as a preference I would go for the newer styles. So I might make the trade for my other knife, then find one of you guys to make me an offer for the basics! I would just love to get my hands on another BM-E or a Steel Heart....sweeeeeet.

Hopefully this question will not raise the hair on the necks of too many readers... but which would you prefer, the basics or the rats... given the price difference. Again I am gathering thoughts in order to make the best decision on selling another knife in order to buy more from the Busse/Rat clan! So I am still one of the good guys.

Between the Rats and the Basics I feel as though you will not go wrong either way. I like the Basics mainly because I have become so attached to them through time and use. Much like my old Browning A-5; there may be better and more advanced shotguns, but I'll grab the Browning more times than not.

As for the Rats. I like the handles better than the Basics in both shape and composition. I do not have first hand experience in testing the difference between the M-INFI and the SR-101, but the Basics have served me well throughout serious use and the Rats seem very tough as well. I personally chopped a cement block at the last BLADE show with a Rat and the edge held up great. Flip a coin; you will not go wrong either way.

Thanks for all the input...just agreed to make the trade, now I have to wait for a few days for them to get here... I am expecting two new Busse Basics, one 7 and one 9.
