Just purchased a batac le but just realized it doesn't have a number on it... pretty much most other pictures i saw of these knifes had numbers on them , im new to busse and this is my first one.
Thanks

It may be an LE. During LE runs busse will give the choice of no number on an LE. I got one FBM LE like that, I got one original Meaner LE like that and an original SHBM LE like that. But the handles would be the same color and it will come with the same satin finish.

Yep, that is NOT an LE blade. The LEs are numbered, generally have Tigerhide grips and (I believe) are thicker than any of the unnumbered versions. Satin BATACs were part of one of the ganzas in the last year or so as I recall as well.

Cobalt is correct (of course. More history in one HOG would be rare.). I have had an LE with black G10 and no #. I have seen others as well. May have been shop modified, but still considered an LE if it came from Busse listed as such originally.

Bought it from a nice fellow on gunnutz, he has a very high trader rating and sounds like he really knows his stuff. So i believe him i just wanted your guys opinions! I really don't know too much about knives, just getting started :D

This was his description:

I have a BATAC from last year's Ganzaa in May - satin blade, OD Green G10 handles, .25" at the spine, in an AZWelke pancake sheath in Coyote Brown, convex edge.

My bad it isn't le.

The BATAC LE was the beginning of a period I hear might be ending where requests for no number and/or logo on LE's were turned away. Trust me I asked. Asked on the ASH-1's too, and one or 2 other following model LE's before I got the hint, LOL...slow like that. ;)
It is rumored that only 3 completely sterile BATAC LE's exist, but I've yet to see pix of even one.

Jaxx's info makes sense, the number is sometimes the only true LE identifier you can rely on especially if the handles get swapped. There is an NMSFNO LE that keeps popping up on the exchange that lost it's sweet tigerhide linen for some g10... Yeah it is a numbered LE blank, but it sure won't be as comfy as those LE handles were. There were a few models that got black paper instead of tigerhide and a few that had handle choice options which I think started with the tankbuster.

If the only thing you ask for is sans number, it is easy. I think the problem is when people ask for more. I can tell you that I have a 1998 SHBM LE no number. I had a 2004 FBMLE no number, 2002 Meaner, set of two, one with number one sans number ordered by me at the same time. Maybe when Busse went into high production in the 2004 + period they had no time for it, but this has been done in the past. But if you ask for different handles, then it is much more work. but who knows the mysteries of production.
