Busse Blade Finishes - Crinkle?

I have been eyeing the FBM for sometime and of course recently saw some available on the Company Store!

I can imagine what, for example, "Black crinkle" looks like but I was curious as to why at the Knife Company website you do not see the crinkle blade finish.

Is the crinkle finish exclusive to the Busse Company Store?

Is this finish more or less desirable (functionally / aesthetically) than the standard non-crinkle finish?

Thanks for the help.

I always thought the primary purpose of that black crinkle stuff was so that Busse could cut corners on blade finish. I personally like their satin blades much better (they cut better too). Make 'em partially earn your hard-earned money.

the smooth coat is not available, and the only other non-crinkle coats are the satin and double cut.

the black finish on the main site is the black crinkle. it just doenst say "crinkle".

Thanks. Is that specific to the FBM or does it apply to all models? Like the Badger Attack out there now... is that pic then a Tan Crinkle?

applies to all models. the pic on the main page is desert tan crinkle/snakeskin micarta. the other is satin/tiger hide micarta.

Yes, it's all crinkle. Until you start using it. And then it becomes smooth. And if you are one of the faithful, it eventually becomes bead blasted ;)

i have a few that are a combination of crinkle/smooth/naked. :)

I would assume that part of the idea with crinkle is that the higher crinkles have to wear off first before the coating starts to wear off the blade. This would obviously lengthen the amount of time until bare steel shows.

It's sort of all crinkle, as MORIMOTOM said, and sort of not. What I mean is that all the coatings that are available are rough, like MORIMOTOM said, but the coatings are not all rough in the same way.

For example, the black is "crinkly", while the tan is "sandpapery". The black wears away a little faster than the tan, while the tan chips a little more easily than the black.

the od seems to be the smoothest. the tan is definitely the roughest. black is somewhere in the middle.

the tans i have also have a blk undercoating. the muddy feels like the black, but definitely chips easier.

ive found the double cut to be the most durable, the satin to be the most prone to scratching.
