Busse BWM Options Questions

Guys,
I have never owned a Busse, but I've always wanted to own a few nice large fixed blades, and I know I will eventually end up with a few Busses for sure.
Here are my questions on possibly ordering a BWM on the website:

1. How much longer will they likely be for sale on the Busse website? I know you might not be able to say for sure, but can I get an IDEA, or an estimated length of time I might have left to order?

2. In regards to the regular BWM, (convex ground and 3/16" thick), and the LE model (saber ground at approx. .220 thick), I would like to know WHICH would be the best chopper?
I would NORMALLY guess the LE model would, (because of it's heavier/thicker blade), BUT I thought I read somewhere in the Busse Forums, that the Saber grind was not nearly as good a chopper as other grinds?
What say about this guys?

3. I have a big problem determining WHICH COLORS are what, because Busse doesn't show them LABELED on the web page. Could someone direct me to a good online blade color/finish comparison pic, where the pic is WELL LIT UP, and I can actually SEE the different blade colors/finishes side-by-side?
I am mainly interested in seeing black vs tanker grey but I'd also not mind seeing the others as well.

4. IF I bought a Busse BWM which had a slightly damaged micarta handle scale, would Busse fix it for a reasonable fee? How much? Guesstimate if necessary.

5. IF I bought a BWM which had a blade finish/color which I wasn't too happy with, would Busse refinish the blade for me in a different color option?

6. Will Busse swap the handle material or handle color IF I didn't like it?

7. I have heard Busse will apply that awesome looking CAMO blade finish to ANY Busse knife I send in. Is this true? IF so, how much (approximately) for a BWM sized blade?

I'm not asking if Busse will do any work for FREE, but just wondering IF they will do it, for a reasonable price that I can AFFORD.

Thanks for any help with the above questions guys. I sure would appreciate it!

I'm a newbie, the BWM LE is my first INFI:D I'll try to help, but others will be more in-the-know than me.

1. No idea, better get one now!
2. I chose the LE because it's a tad thicker, the saber grind seemed more like an all around good grind. I wanted the knife to be more than just a chopper.
3. Check the pics threads, sorry.
4. Probably, give them a call for free to find out, good people there:)
5. Possibly, but I doubt it. You could trade it here or sell it no problem.
6. Same as 5.
7. Same as 4.

Get it!

When I inquired about getting one of my blades recoated - I think it was a Skinny ASH - they quoted me $70 plus shipping.

With that said, this was last year and for a smaller knife than the BWM.

As for colors, there are a bunch of BWM owners threads with great pics - a simple search will hook you up.

EDIT: Here it is: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=699475

Can never go wrong with sage and tan (far right) - black and tan (second on right) and muddy and tan (third on right) also look awesome:

As for being unhappy with a color/slab combo and wanting to return it to Busse - just send them an email. With that said, youd be better off just selling it at cost on the exchange - maybe even make a few bucks.

As for "slightly damaging" the micarta handles - do you mean like a scratch in the micarta? I doubt that'd even be worth sending in - I dont think they can just patch a handle - I'd guess theyd just replace the entire slab. Furthermore, from what I've seen, the micarta is pretty friggin tough to damage - it seems that when it does break, it is a catastrophic break around the tube fastener, in which case I'm sure you could warranty it out. I wouldnt worry too much about hurting your BWM and just enjoy it.

Good luck!

I'm not worried about hurting a knife. I'm currently looking at a Busse knife on another gun/knife forum, in which the handle has a chunk missing out of the micarta, where the user dropped the knife onto something hard. It's a NEW knife, with a small chunk missing, and it's an expensive, discontinued knife, and I cannot bring myself to buy the knife, without first knowing Busse will fix it for a reasonable fee.
I know I can call Busse, but not until Monday, so I wanted to see if you guys could clear a few things up for me, as this knife may not last long, and I wanted to possibly buy it, IF I knew for sure Busse would fix the knife, without it costing me too much money. Obviously, IF it did cost too much to have it repaired, that would of course make the deal not worth it in the first place.
Anyhow, I hope to hear back from more of you guys, in an attempt to get the rest of my questions answered.
THANK YOU BUSSE GURUS for any help you can offer!

Which forum did you say that was on? :D

If stripping and recoating is $70, I would think changing out slabs has to cost less. It is also possible they would fix your slabs as warranty work, for the cost of shipping. Unfortunately, you may not get a definitive answer over the weekend from a bunch of drunken Hogs and piglets.

Hehe,
Yeah, I know what you guys are thinking, but the NMFBM on this forum with the same handle issue isn't the one for me. Totally wrong color, and I honestly don't have $600+ for knife, plus $70 for color/finish change, plus shipping to me, then Busse/etc. I just don't have $700+ for a knife that I'm going to beat the hell out of and call a user, totally degrading it's value. I like nice knives, but no fixed blade knife is worth much over $500 to me, unless it's going to skyrocket in value, while sitting in my safe not getting used.
I plan to USE my first Busse knife, not safequeen it.
What I DO hope to have, is the money for a BWM (new from Busse), in either black/black or tan micarta, or tanker grey/black or tan micarta.

I have one or two more questions guys, as follows. (and I THANK YOU GUYS for clearing things up for me above already!)

-If I bought a black finished BWM, (which has the REALLY textured finish, much moreso than some other colors, what would the steel look like if I were to bead blast the black finish off one day on down the road? I mean, would the infamous "Infi Dimple" condition rear it's ugly head? OR, would they NOT show up if I bead blasted the black finish off?
What I'm really wanting to do here, is take a black BWM blade, and bead blast my own unique camo/tiger stripes into the blade, for my own custom finish. Similar to what Strider does to their blades. Go easy on me though guys. It's going to be a user BWM, and I'm sure some of you find this to be sacrilege, but that's what many of us ex-knifemakers/knifemodders do. We just like modding our knives, and tinkering around with different mods of my own. Of course, this is only done to our users, and not safe queens obviously. And to be honest, I am not even SURE I would end up doing the tiger striped bead blast finish. Just something I would like to have the OPTION of doing, on down the road.
SO, would the infamous INFI Dimples show up, if I bead blasted my black finished BWM blade, or can you know for sure?

-Secondly, can anyone tell me if Busse would likely do a little custom BWM for me, by simply allowing me to order black paper micarta handle scales, on a regular CG BWM? I LOVE the black paper micarta, MUCH more than any other scale material, but I am wanting the black paper on a CG/standard BWM, and NOT the saber ground satin LE model. You see guys, the last thing I want in a tactical/hard use/survival knife, is a super reflective finish, such as the LE satin finish. I mean, I know it's a survival knife and all, but I don't need my knife also acting as a survival signaling mirror as well. LOL.
I know the LE finish is more for collectors, and those wanting ultra low friction in cutting competitions/etc, but I would just absolutely LOVE to have a CG BWM, with black paper micarta handle scales.
Anyone think Busse would be willing to do this for me? I'd be totally stoked if they would be willing, and I thought maybe you guys would know if it would be possible?
If not, then I'll have more time to think it over, and decide on a color combination.

Thanks for the continued help with my first Busse purchase guys.

Yes i think anythings possible at the Busse shop. You just have to give them a call and maybe talk to the Bossman himself or Amy. But it may or may not cost some extra for the BP/swap out I'm not sure. But i highly suggest calling Busse Combat for the imformation your seeking. And good luck with your new BWM.

I could be wrong here but I think Amy said you would need to buy one from the advertised spec's and later they would consider swapping out grips .... probably after it was off the web site .... as I think a few were asking the same question on Black Paper ....

I would be willing to bet you'll find INFI dimples under the black finish. My BWM had them under the sage coating but I wouldn't say they look bad. The are only at the highest spots on the convex grind and around the flat areas on the ricasso and near the handle. I did a lot of hand sanding but not enough to get rid of the dimples, that would have significantly thinned the blade. I think the dimples look cool and love the stripped blade.

All the CGBWM will look similar under the coating, within a range of variation.

Here my stripped BWM. Several other Hogs have noted the same line of INFI dimples up by the spine.

Bead blasting will not remove the dimples, but will sort of smooth them out some. We look forward to pics of your modded knife.
