Busse C.A.B.S. for first busse knife?

Hey guys,

Really wanting to try out some infi steel, but I had trouble picking out my first.

I really wanted the boss street, but never came around to ordering it.

Now I see the cabs and I'm just floored! Looks like an awesome knife!

Couple questions:

Is it "to thin?" I know that this is probably a stupid question but it looks like a mighty dainty knife. Can this little knife stand up to more than i could probably dish out?


How does the warranty work with busse knives? if he only produces specific knives in certain batches, does that mean he has some in stock, or does he just make another one?

I would use this for mostly outdoor work. Some small wordwork, fish gutting, fire preparing, and some bushcraft.

Richard, first of all welcome to the dark side. ;)

If your intended use is as you describe then the CABS is probably the perfect Busse for the job. IMO, the CABS is the best Busse EDC ever made. Now I know I will get some flack for saying that but it is really a perfect little knife. As long as you don't plan on doing any heavy prying with the tip you will be hard pressed to damage it. And compared to most of my kitchen knives, it is not too thin. Get one while you can and prepare for further INFI purchases. :thumbup:

This would be the perfect knife for what you need sounds like. I don't think its too thin at all and I doubt you could break it, but if you did Jerry would replace it no problem.
 
in the small-knife range from Busse, ever, I can hardly think of a better one than a CABS.

I don't think it's too thin. though I'd be careful prying with the very tip. I've (carefully) used it to open canned goods in a pinch, and as an ice pick, and it did both with little effort. as a matter of fact, it slices through canned goods like butter.

^^^ :thumbup: ...Plus (and this is not common on Busse knife models) you get to choose which version you like best... small choil (SCABS), large choil (LCABS), or no choil (CABS).

As for warranty replacements... IIRC, Jerry keeps some blanks in stock for this purpose. These, being as thin as they are and not taking up a lot of room to store, I imagine that he'd have some around for quite awhile. When needed, a blank would be retrieved from storage, ground, HT'd (?), handled, sharpened, and then boom, the replacement is ready to roll. :thumbup:

I may be wrong somewhere in here, but I do know that Busse will do all they can to satisfy the customer in a valid warranty situation. :)

I sure love my CABS!!!!

Perfect design for the size. Not too thin for what I use a knife for at all. Sharp sucker too.

If you get one, they are convex edge so you need to learn to sharpen a convex edge. Super easy to maintain on a strop!

The lack of a choil is really the kicker for the design. Made it impossible to pass up.
 
My CABS is 0.143" at the flat of the ricasso, or 3.64mm.

I think the CABS is a great knife. Some members here believe that the properties of INFI really shine in a big knife, and they are happy with other steels in EDC blades.

As far as warranty, if you damage your Busse and a replacement knife is NOT available, Jerry has stated that you would get shop credit for the original retail value.
 
You couldn't do better. I put the CABS in the top three designs by Busse.
The other two are the FBM (pick your flavor) and the Ratweiler (a Busse sister knife).
