Now that I have my first Busse on order, I must reveal my ignorance with this basic, basic, question: Is the Busse line considered Production, Handmade, or somewhere in between? It's been a long time since I've been so excited waiting for a knife, and I'll be proud to join you guys and gals!

Well, they're really both. Busse seems to have gained its reputation from its custom handmade line (Battle Mistress, Steel Heart, etc.) and took that know-how to create the 'Basic' line. I think of the Basics as a production line, but I like them more than many customs I've handled.

Take care!

(By the way, I'm heading out for trail maintenance at a local park today...with one of the Basics.)

It only takes a short while hanging out in the Custom forum to understand how emotions can flare when the highly contentious and emotional issue of 'custom vs. production' is discussed, especially where companies like Busse Combat and Chris Reeve Knives are concerned. It is my understanding that according to the letter of the law, both the Busse Combat line and all Reeve knives are considered production blades, despite the excessive amount of hand crafting and hand fitting that goes into the creation of each knife. I think the Busse Basic line would be considered production by almost all definitions. I'm not exactly sure where the Busse Combat Variants fall into the above equation; maybe Andy could shed some light for us on that one.

But regardless of 'definitions', I wouldn't let any of this diminish the excitement your experiencing while awaiting the arrival of your first Busse. You're about to own what is, in my humble opinion, the finest hard use knife available in the world today. Whether that knife was profiled or coated by an outside firm doesn't mean a hill of beans to me. All I care about is what happens with the final product when the chips are down and the comforts of civilization are left far behind.

Thanks, cj and Bronco! It's the quality of the knife that matters to me, not its origins. I just wanted to know for my info.I'm sure I'll be talking to you both in the future. Is there any website that pictures the entire Busse line, or anywhere near it? The Busse site is under construction right now,and Sharper Instinct only shows a few pictures that I can find.Any suggestions? Thanks again.
