Hi, I have a question regarding the coating of busse knives under the handle. I have recently purchased a coated HOG Gemini and wonder now if it is completely coated under the handle shells or not. I have seen some pictures in the net, where with disassembled handles a small uncoated spot was to see, on which the coating was apparently removed. why is that, and is that the same with the Gemini? I hope someone knows the answer. Many Thanks

Yes, I have never seen a coated knife not have coating under the handles when they are removed.

The Last Post !:)

I would bet that 99.9% of busses are not like that. But like anything else, every once in a while something happens. But when you consider the warranty, it is not an issue as that can be fixed. There is no other knife company that has Busses warranty. So not sure why you would worry so much. It isn't like Busse is trying to make extra work for themselves by having to repair more knives. Unlike other makers with a BS warranty with which you have no recourse.

I am not sure with that pic posted by WValtakis WValtakis if that was factory or had been stripped leaving the exposed decarb layer under the handle slabs to corrode. I am reading it as the later but I hope he will chime in.

The bare spot was from the factory, the rust was probably accelerated by all the washing when I stripped it with the slabs on...but the bare spot was there when I pulled the slabs to strip under them.

I know most of us on here (the Busse forum) take care of our own problems so I imagine you just sanded it off but you probably could have gotten a fresh satin job if you would have sent that back to the mothership.

But then I wouldn't have had anything to do on nightshift;)

My understanding, is that there is a number that corresponds to the specific scales that have been fit to that knife, before coating is applied. Then after coating they match up the correct (also numbered scales) to put on the correct knife for a perfect fit.

You could use it for an lifetime, heck, generations, and never have an issue under the scales.
