Even though I had put my Busse G-10 grips on my Colt Commander they were too slim and ended up being loose. I used some small O-rings to try to make it fit but that wasn't the answer. I tried to find something that was in the form of a slim sheet that I could shape and use as a spacer.
---
Locally I found a Hobby Shop with sheets of 0.040"
and 0.060" Styrene for less than $4 so I figured
I'd give it a shot. I picked up the 0.040".

---
I traced them and cut them out with a box cutter.
---

---
The first one came out pretty good with a little
help from the Bear Cub, the stone on the Dremel
and some fine sandpaper.
---

---
Now the grips fit good and snug and look great.
It's really got that 'stealth' thing going for it.
---

---
The did add some noticable thickness to the gun's
grip but I don't know how that will effect it yet.
0.080" doesn't sound like much but when you are accustomed
to the narrower grip it makes a diffefence.

so you put the styrene on like a spacer between the frame and grip?

that's a good idea.

now i see it. crummy work computers! :(

Did you try to install some slim line grip screw bushings?
I am waiting on Busse to do a run for the Officer frame.

I tried some rubber O-rings but they wouldn't stay in place when the screws were tightened. This is the first I've heard of 'slim line grip screw bushings', I'll do a search for them later. Thanks.

Get smaller bushings or cut down the ones you have. Just dremel the tops off a bit and they should be tight with the grips.

There are two different sets of grip screw bushings, regular and slim-line. The regular bushings can only take the regular grips, but the slim-line bushings can take both.

I have the slim bushings in my 1911 and can switch from regular thickness grips to thin grips with no problem, they just take different length screws.

I also use O-rings, but just to keep my screws from backing out while shooting.

This is the best site for 1911 discussion:http://www.1911forum.com/

you need slim bushings and grip screws... they are half the length of reg screws and bushings. should tighten right up

So they just unscrew out of the frame and the shorter ones should fit the Busse grips but with the shorter screws?

They have slim line grip screw bushings that go in the frame of the pistol, I have a kimber and didn't need them with the tiger hide micarta grips.

If you are lookin for a fatter grip pearce grips makes a wrap around with finger grooves that goes under any 1911 grips and around the front strap it's kinda like what youv'e done.
