I have much love for both brands of knives, they are my favorite fixed blades at this point short of some customs. On to my question, which brand in current production not old pieces do you think will hold more collector value? If you bought a Busse and a Randall today which do you feel would be worth more in the future as a collector? Thanks.

That is a tough one ... both great ... Randall has been going strong for a long time.

I collect knives, I don't invest in them.

You should buy knives you like and not look at potential for future financial gains, or you may be severely disappointed. People's tastes change over time. Most knife values drop not increase. Now I'm not saying Randall or Busse will drop in values, but I think you are taking the wrong approach.

If you collect what YOU like, you'll never be disappointed.

hands down the randall will increase in years ahead not because it's a better knife ,but because randall has world-wide recognition. my brother was in italy & GOT TO TALKING KNIVES WITH A COLLECTOR OVER THERE & THE FELLOW WANTED TO KNOW IF HE HAD ANY RANDALLS. he did'nt have any with him but the prices the guy quoted for certain models was astronomical.in somalia, argentina, ubeikistan. & scotland everyone knows what a randall is.my 2 nephews collect busses & for a using knife i like busses better.but if i wanted the surest return in future on a knife it would be a randall.

There are randall's from Nam and WWII era going for thousands of dollars and they were users. In time Busse will have that type of reputation but randall just has the respect of generations world over. Give busse time, they will get there

Yes, but I always believe that if you buy what you like, you'll never have to care about it going up or down in value since you won't be selling it.

Everything else is just a guess.

This is a very good point!

Both knives are very good for their purposes, however:

Busse knives are 90% CNC'd, Randall knives are handmade.

I would say the Randall has more collector value.

Randall, hands down. Has nothing to do with the better knife. It has everything to do with branding.

I'd say Randall because of the history and brand recognition it has enjoyed for years (see Dennis Strickland's post above). I also think that you'll be pretty sure to always at least get the money out of a Randall that you put into it - even if you buy one without the wait from a Randall dealer and pay the markup. Might be fun to follow both 'markets' for a while and see what you find out.

Thanks for the answers. Where is the best place to learn about Randall Made? I have done a search but didn't find much. Thanks Again.

There's a Randall subforum here. Feel free to ask whatever you want. You may not get an answer right away (most of us just wait for the midnight e-mail with the updates), but I think we can probably answer just about anything you can come up with.

Sounds like the right answer to me.

If you want to spend money on an investment today, buy real estate.

If you want to buy a knife, buy the one you like.

I have and love both.... NONE of my randalls will ever be for sale, BUT I also have some busse"s that are priceless to me as well.

Buy what you like whatever it is, and enjoy it..... Invest in LAND they aint makin much of that:eek:

Not sure which is more valuable (though i think Randall) as an investment knife.

However here is something to consider re: steel. Busse's brand is largely based on "infi". If Jerry were to market a new "infi II" that was "superior" to "infi" then i would personally not value "infi" the same way.

Randall on the other hand uses stainless steel and carbon steel...supersteel is not their marketing sales point.

just my $.02.

I own 14 Randalls. Most of them were made when Bo was still alive. The average price back then was about $150 a knife!!!! Now it's hard to find one less than $500
