Just wandering how y'all like it.
Most of my Spydies are G10, so Canvas Micarta was kinda new to me. However, my Temperance 2, is I believe Linen Micarta. And I really like it.
Not as much as I like the Bussekin Canvas Micarta though. Actually- am I even correct in referring to the Busse Canvas as Canvas Micarta?
At any rate, I just recently ordered 2 Bunker Busters. One in Battle Grade and an INFI LE. Both with G10 handles....
Im kinda wandering if I should have ordered the Battle Grade with Canvas......I've heard mentioned a few times that Canvas is actually better for a user. How much moreso Im not sure. But, just by playing around with my ASH1 BG, I can attest to how good it does feel in the hand. I can imagine it being better especially in wet conditions. Maybe providing a better grip.
But man oh man, I once saw a Tank Buster BG, with Pumpkin G10 Handles (Orange&Black) and I loved it!
A direct question I would ask; is does the Busse G10 have a good texture to it, (traction if you will please) or is it smooth?
Thanx for indulging a Bussekin newb!

It is "slicker" than peel ply knife handles on folders like Cold Steel & Spyderco...but that's not necessarily a bad thing, especially on choppers...

Some users prefer G10 because they feel it is more hygenic for food prep...thinking is that since the canvas Mic is more porous it will harbor bacteria & other bugs more readily...

I love the "feel" of Micarta and it performs great when grimy or wet with sweat or other fluids...

Linen Micarta is great also...wish Busse would offer it more!

Thanx Petey! Great info.....

I think that canvas micarta (yes, that is the correct term for the Busse material) offers more natural grip than G10. YMMV. The sculpting of the scales plays a role, of course. In my limited experience, G10 can feel sharper on the peaks of the carving, but you can fix that with some hand sanding. The grip of both materials can be improved with a grit blast, but Busse does not generally offer this. I prefer micarta for users, but the various G10 combos do certainly look better.

^^^Yes^^^ The canvas Micarta actually has plies of canvas material overlapped smothered & covered with resin mixed with a catalyst almost exactly like fiberglass-- the biggest difference being the base materials, of course...

The iconic patterns Busse crafts into their handles don't show as much definition with the canvas Mic. due to the coarser nature of the canvas itself...

here's a pic that shows <fairly clearly> how the canvas fibers are encapsulated in the polyresin, ***NOTE*** the layering of the canvas plies on display inside the rearmost tube hole:

Linen Mic. <as it's name implies> uses actual linen as a base ply...it is finer in weave and will show the handle detail more sharply than the canvas, but it retains a lot of the grippiness of the canvas and has a very pleasing comfort for the hand...IMHO, linen Micarta provides the best balance of looks + grip + feel of any handle material...strike that...it is my favorite PERIOD and does not "balance" any thing as a trade off any category in favor of another!

I'll take this as another opportunity to step up on the stump & speak up for MORE LINEN MICARTA!:D:thumbup: please, thank you! :)

Paper Micarta...finest texture yet and allows for the sharpest, highest definition of handle pattern. It trades looks for grippiness. Some think paper Mic. is more delicate, but in my experience, the only damage I've incurred is when I dropped a TGLB onto the concrete of my garage >>>> it formed a small ding. Paper Micarta is tough enough for most ELU's not named Nos.

G10...basically woven fiberglass fabric smothered in resin...since the glass fiber is "slick" almost as luxurious as silk, it doesn't start with a great property of grip as do the natural fiber base materials provide...it provides almost as much definition of pattern as the paper Mic. but is renowned for it's toughness, resilience, & resistance to chemical attack. Like resinguy stated, it is beautiful when layered with complementary colors combined with the artistic way Busse machines the patterns into their scales!

The grit / soda blasting will greatly help with grip but will erode definition of pattern and give the handles a hazy look-- if that kind of thing is important to you. :)

I humbly submit this for informational purposes for the Hogs & Piglets with deference to our RESINdent chem pro.-- resinguy, please correct / educate me brother if I misspoke or needed to speak further, I am just an experiential user with no professional training outside working in fiberglass boat industry for a half dozen years ...:)

Busse's G10 has the best texturing of ANY G10 Handles I have ever used-Get the Handle that most suites your eye, and never look back-Canvas in my opinion is superior in a larger-Chopping only Knife-The difference is minimal-Good luck

I have my share of both and I like both, if the dead were to rise and I were forced to grab one I would not feel at a loss having either. My personal preference, partially aesthetic, but mostly how it feels in hand to me would be G10.

I hear ya Andy. G10 is really good stuff.
Either would be great....
And yes Petey, Linen Micarta feels and looks great.
My T2, git2 a little darker with continued use and looks really good. I'll tell ya though, Sal really knocked it out of the park with the T2. Its a great all-round fixed blade.

I have Swamps in micartas and g10 and only 1 Busse atm also in g10. I agree that g10 is more slippery than micarta grip-wise but I like both. I like g10 for its vibrance of color and variety. FWIW I have a sHE and a s.o.s le coming and they are both tan/black g10. If grip concerns you try a good glove like Hatch or something when you use it.

G10 is very good and very tough, the toughest of all the handle materials offered by Busse. It's slightly heavier than the other materials too. Cool for me as I like heavy knives. Fat heavy knives.

I really like both Busse G-10 and Canvas Micarta.
Right now I'm on a massive Green Micarta kick, and have been ordering it almost exclusively in O2W.
