New to fixed blades. Have a couple of striders MK1 Mod10 Gunner G10 and an HT. Never have heard of Busse until searching a sellers items and wished I had seen them sooner. Then saw Swamprats and Scrapyards. All seem from the same company and owned by Busses, but have terrible web pages. Bussecombat only shows two knives, wheres a Battle Mistress?. The Swamprat website only shows a Mojo mini for sale. Is that all they make? At least the Scrapyard website has 7-10 knives on it. How do these companies compare? Is the difference the steel sr77, sr101, INFI? It seems the Scrapyards are cheapest, then Swamprats and then the Busses. They all have .25 inch blades with similar wide drop or clip points. How do these blades compare to strider or Chris Reeve fixed? I know alot to ask.

welcome to the busse forum  don't worry about their web pages, their web master is a newbie and drunk most of the the time. the busse group makes awesome blades and i'm sure somebody sober will join us here in a minute.
.

I also wished I'd discovered Busse Combat sooner. I'd start by reading through the stickies at the top of the page. That should answer a few questions. Lots of knowledgeable folks here who will help as well. Oh yeah, the Kool Aid is terrific here.

Welcome to BladeForums, and the Busse forum! Yes, the Busse group web presence is not what one might hope. You have figured out some of it; Busse is the flagship line, using the premium, proprietary steel, INFI. The main Busse site is currently still taking orders for the one, current model, the ASH-1. We think it might change soon, to ???. (soon is relative in the Busse universe)

Other Busse knives can be found at the Busse Company Store:

http://www.bussecompanystore.com/index.htm

You can find the Fusion Battle Mistress LE there for $697. Other flavors can be found here on the Exchange or eBay.

Swamp Rat is expecting a new knife soon (:D), maybe next weekend? The best place for info is on their forum

Scrap Yard has some nice pictures of previous models, but nothing for sale at the moment. Again, keep up with their forum for the best news:

As was said, read the stickies atop this forum, hang out for a while, you'll get the hang of things eventually. Drinking might help, if you are so inclined.

Some of us have some Mistresses

Steve, I'm new here too and just purchased my first Busse. From what I can tell, these knives are sold in small batches as they are released. To say the reception of these releases is feverish would be an understatement I believe. The reason you only see webpages with a few or no knives for sale is because they usually only release a few different knives at a time and even then sell out in a short period. The bulk of sales are done in the Busse/Swamprat/Scrapyard exchange here or on other web exchanges of various sorts.

The community appears to have all sorts of different events that are annual and spontaneous, referred to as "Ganzaas" with a wide variety of different knives for sale. There is also a secondary store (BusseCompanyStore) which gets certain stocks of knives direct from Busse. It appears to be operated by an infinitely drunk individual referred to as "Skunk".

On the topic of inebriation, it should be noted that Scotch and/or Bourbon are the preferred methods of intoxication, with a special fondness by the "Boss Hog" (Mr. Busse) for Johnny Walker Blue Label.

There, how is that for a freshman book report?

Thegreyman, you forgot the obligatory plug for the busse company store, where FBMLEs are currently available. And, the busse collector, a repository of pictures of busse models (and specs including original list price) from the past.

Nevermind, I apparently cannot read.

Scrapyard are the cheapest, then Swamprat, then Busse. Busse recently offered the Battle Mistress, or FBM, but it is now discontinued, I would recommend looking in the exchange, or the bay. The Anniversary Steel Heart, or ASH, is open for ordering right now, you should get them while you can, because as soon as Jerry discountinues them you will not be able to get them again from him. The Ash is my favorite Busse offered so far. Busses, and SR, and SY are like custom knives, thats why they are limited.

Welcome to Bladeforums.

The websites aren't terrible. That's just all that the company is offering now. As for Scrapyard, those knives aren't really for sale. They are knives that were offered in the past.

Have a look at this thread:

Welcome, I really can't add anything that hasn't been said except to say, glad to have you about, sit down and let me pour you a nice cup of KOOL-AID :-)!

stevelong -- run now. Act like you never saw any of this stuff

I thought I'd get just one Busse for myself five months ago. I now own 5 (one a month it seems) and am working on how i can get my work to direct deposit my checks to a Ganzaa fund ;)

Poke around the site - it will all become clear. Welcome.

My husband is a Busse man (tho he does have one Swamp Rat now), but I started out as a die-hard Swamp Rat girl. I preferred them. I have 3 and I use them. Then one day I saw the Scrap Yard DF and had to have one. I got one in trade and I love it! Only recently did I get my first Busse, also in trade. They are all excellent blades. The differences are not only in steel, but also in handles and variations of blade style. I am convinced it is all about personal preference, but each line has something for everyone.

As has already been said, the forums are a great place for information, pictures, and discussion with some fantastic folks!

Stevelong, most of your questions have already been addressed here. I agree with you that the respective web sites leave a lot to be desired. It is hard to figure our what is going on, and where to find any of the products for sale (I still don't think I have ever actually gotten the swamp rat site to work, I just get a page with an intro, but no knives). I think the Scrap yard site is the easiest to use and navigate. But the Busse family (Busse, Swamprat, Scrap Yard) do one thing very well, that is make great knives. They don't really need to advertise, or have the highest tech websites. They sell every knife they make just about as fast as they make them. It is kinda like an insider's club. There are so many rabid loyal buyers that they have a ready built market, and new guys can kinda feel lost. The best advice has already been given. Read the stickies at the top of this forum. Do a lot of reading of posts here, and ask questions if you can't find the answers. The Busse/scrapyard/swamp rat exchange here is the best source for scoring.

As to how the Busse family knives compare to Striders and Chris Reeve fixed blades......................I think they are way stronger (if you compare similar blade thicknesses etc).
Go to knifetests.com to see destruction testing of Busse, Scrapyard, Strider, and Chris Reeve knives compared. Not exactly scientific, but fun to watch.

Been a few days since I could get logged in again. Dont know what happened. Anywho thanks to all who wrote. Sorry Skunk, the website is fine Im just used to sites with a million production knives. These knives are awesome and after reading alot need some advice. Will start a new thread to ask. See you on another thread. Steve
