Busse Combat: the knives, the INFI, and now the rest of the story

I have been thrilled and even amazed by how well I've been treated in all my dealings with this company. It occurs to me that while I know how well I've been treated and I know I've read some references by others as to their happiness with dealing with Busse, but lets put together in a single thread some of those stories of the legendary Busse customer service and even more legendary Busse warranty so those dwindling few who don't know about Busse or are just hearing about this INFI stuff for the first time. So no holding back, pass on those stories here for others to get INFIected.

Here's part of my story. I'm pretty new to Busse knives, partly because I didn't really have an interest in fixed blades until this past summer when my paranoia over lock failure with folders pushed me over the abyss into the world of fixed blades. It didn't take long to find my way to the comfort and security of the world of Busse knive where there is no fear of failure. All of us paranoid worry worts can relax and be confident in the tool that we reach for if it's a Busse.

But I have found other nearly perfect tools before only to discover the tool is far superior to the company producing it. I'm used to this now, it is all too common, but it used to amaze me that some really badly organized or badly managed companies could perhaps luck-out and have such a terrific product.(I'm not thinking of other knife companies here, but several others in other industries) It reminded me of that geeky guy in high school who later when you meet his sister and she's a babe and you just can't believe that she could be HIS sister.

Well for me, when I read this thread from OwenM http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=187901&highlight=broke and Jerry Busse's response to this that was it for me. not only do I want knives thatare that good I want to stand up and cheer uh err I mean I want to support a guy who runs his company like that. I mean common, Owen was breaking apart pallets with it and not cutting or chopping with it. And somebody had modified the knife by cutting serrations in the knife probably screwing up the heat treat of the steel at that point. And if that in fact did not have anything to do with the break it for certain gave ANY manufacturer an exit out of their warranty you could drive a Mack truck thru! I mean Owen wasn't even asking for anything he was just posting a great nuclear abuse story and Jerry Busse VOLUNTARILY jumps into the thread and tells him "send it in- your covered" Do you guys remember the old Bud commercial "You're beautiful man"

Now just so you guys don't think Jerry's crazy or stupid or both, I think this is very good business. It is understanding the difference between an investment and an expense. In both an investment and an expense money flows out of your bank account, the difference is the expense goes out and is gone forever, while the investment goes out as X and comes back as X+Y with Y being your RETURN on investment.$100 dollars in advertisement may bring back $150 in revenue. Or better yet in this case giving Owen a replacement knife that Jerry could sell for say $250, did he lose $250? Is that an expense? NO It's an advertising investment. Jerry spent only $250 and he bought hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of the most sought after type of advertising in existence, customer-to-potential-customer WORD OF MOUTH advertising. Unsolicited testimonials are the golden goose of advertising. Jerry's crazy like a fox me thinks. Since that thread I've bought a NO-E on the forums here, and from Busse a KB, BA-E and a SJ-CG and I'm on the prowl for a second BA-E and I'm saving some $ to see what the new models are going to be to replace the BA and the MOJO JOJO (oops, sorry that's Power Puff Girls not Busse Combat, but hmmm maybe ther's CHEMICAL X in INFI hmmm??)

What's your Busse Combat story?

If anyone asks, I've gone out for marshmallows, grahmcrackers and chocolate, were gonna need some SMMORES for this thread.

Hunter,
Good thread. Busse is definitely one of the best companies I've done business with. Jerry and his employees are Respectful, Courteous, they answers questions without being condescending, best warranty in the business and they honestly care about there customers.

This is what really proves the kind of company they are though.

* Over 150 Busse Combat Blades to our Front line troops? - $43,433.00

*Shipping and Handling? - $128.52

*Overtime hours paid? - $3,920.00

*USSOCOM T-Shirts and a heartfelt Thank You from our troops overseas? - PRICELESS!

This is all I need to know, and why I choose to spend my money on Busses. :D:D

Just out of curiosity, I wonder how many troops we really have over in Afghanistan right now. It seems that all the battle blade companies are really working overtime to supply the troops. Heck, Strider is something like a six month wait; RMJ Forge takes several months to get an Eagle Talon hawk out. I don't know about the waiting time on a factory ordered Busse or ATC. It seems like our guys are really going armed to the teeth. I imagine, if able financially, a GI might take a small/large fixed blade combo; an all purpose tool; and a spike hawk of some sort. I know I would. Anyway, I'm starting to ramble here.

I have been thrilled and even amazed by how well I've been treated in all my dealings with this company.

Most makers and manufacturers will treat you very well when you are singing their praises and telling them how great they are, and how their knives are so excellently excellent. Busse is one of the few that you can actually disagree with and not have it degenerate into slinging insults. He is a pretty decent guy - even if he does have a horrible taste in beer, and thinks its cold just because its below zero.

His customer service is of an extreme level. I have seen on multiple occasions people post about problems with Busse Combat in other forums and Busse will step in and address their problems often resulting in a personal phone call to make sure everything is straightened out. It is hard enough at times to get answers from makers and manufacturers even when you ask them directly - I know, I have done it often enough.

What does the # of deployed troops have to do with the wait. While I'm not deployed I am on mobility and subject to deployment withing 12 hours of notification. We have several teams (not going to say how many troops for obvious reasons) in the same boat, never knowing when or where they might deploy.

Not to mention large troop deployments in other AO's than Afghanistan. Don't forget the desert is still alive and well with mutiple bases and deployed troops.

Personally what I see happening is more and more troops realize that we are not issued a quality knife and are looking elsewhere. Not to mention that reality has settled in and more troops have realized that the military is more than someplace to get a free educiation.

Man, 12 hours notice. I guess I shouldn't limit the number to the guys actually over there. My oversight. Best of luck to you if and/or when they call you to deploy.

What kind of tools will you take with you?

Shrike
I also didn't realize you were subject to deployment within 12 hours of notification. Stay safe and check in with us when you are able.

God Speed.

I can certainly testify to Busse's great customer service. It is unbelieveable. I don't know what else to say :D .

utm, while I agree that Jerry's wonderful warranty coverage cases do help advertise for Busse, I believe that is not much of a factor for him. He's a genuine stand-up guy :D .

Great post by the way. I've heard numerous cases of great Busse CS, and it would be great to put them in one place. If you guys have links to such posts, it would be great if you could quote the revalent parts here.

Hey guys, I'm not going anywhere right now as far as I know:) I'm just a number on a mobility team and a no notice volunteer on that list. My bet is I'll be here doing the homeland defense mission instead of having fun overseas.

Several times overseas we've recieved a no notice recall and within hours been on a C-130. Now this is not the norm stateside anymore but it does happen. I'm also no high speed troop but a USAF Security Police poge.

Before the days of the internet my constant companion was a Randall # 14, and it's been alover the world with me. However, it's now retired as I'm a self proclamed "geer queer"

My last deployment to the sandbox I took a Rinaldi Warhawk, Livesay Air Assault and Woo along with a Emerson CQC-7.

For jungle ops my Basic #9 will also accompany me. (only other Busse I've got is the Euro 4 and I'm not willing to risk loosing it)

However, the Rinaldi and AA have been replaces with a Strider MT SS and MT mod 10 on my vest and IWB (when downtown among the locals)

Man if that doesn't put a damper on your life, I don't know what would.

That's a lot of pressure to live under.
Here's what I'll do for you guys;

If anyone is set to deploy and they can't get the knife that they want
I'll send you one of mine if I have what you need.

I'll make this offer on any of my Busse's, my ATC NG Hatchet, my Brend, or my LCC D/A.

(Some of you know that I also have bought several Striders and a few Emersons in the past.
I have sold off all of the Striders and Emersons)

That's all I can do to help you at this time.
Keep Your head down and get the job done, then get your butt home...
Gods Speed All...

If anyone is set to deploy and they can't get the knife that they want

1, you da man :)

Shrike, whether you stay here at home or get called overseas, thanks for your service and keep safe.

I get an additional 12 hours notice prior to deployment. I got the call back in January. I was only gone for 6 weeks, but it does make it tough on the family to be here one day, gone the next for an indefinite period. However, I consider it a privilege to take care of the folks in our military and do my very small part in our efforts against the bad guys. It is also great to have the support of companies and people like Jerry and his folks. Even though I am medical and not "a front-line troop", Jerry equipped my team with his excellent blades. He did this out of his own generosity, with no ulterior motives. I was even hesitant to post this because I don't think Jerry is after public praise for his actions (his knives maybe). Well Jerry, they were used and appreciated. No stealthy commando raids. Just dependable tools used every day for our work in the field. Thank you.

JDS,

Glad that your deployment was successful and you're back home with your family. Also glad to hear that the knives worked out for you guys.

Thanks,

Jerry

Welcome home JDS!
It's been a while since we've seen you in this neck of the woods:)

Jerry, Kev,

Thanks. It's good to be back, but it was also good to be out there doing my job. Funny how that works.

Regards,

Jeff

12 hours notice?

Better get a Natural Outlaw in your bag ASAP.

----------------------------------------------

The Basic #9 is a great jungle knife and I too would not want to lose a Euro 4, if I had one, which I don't.:( But my experiences with the Natural Outlaw have made it one of my most often carried companions afield.

Jerry, Thanks so much for "so much more" than just great knives; thanks for taking care of your customers, near & far....
Hats off to you, Sir.
Nuclear Powered,
Clif
