Question for you old HOGs out there who would be in the know:

What exactly is the difference between a knife bearing the Busse Combat logo vs Busse Custom Shop logo? Are Custom Shop pieces really "custom" or hand-made? I've seen some Custom Shop pieces that seem to have high production numbers, like the Nuclear EDC or Shiva Rex, and some Busse Combat pieces that required no small amount of hand finishing, like the NMFBM LE with its convex edge, or the snakeskin NMFBM of which only 13 were made.

So what gives? Is the difference marketing hype? Or is there a real difference in how these knives made and finished?

Thanks.

Honestly, it depends on what you are willing to pay for it. That's it. Like that wacky finger-grooved odd-ground SHSJ. I have no desire for it and wouldn't pay you anything for it. But others would sell their mother-in-laws for that blade.

I like the occassional CS blade. I have a few. Mostly GW's. Might make a CS-GW clock some day. :)

Some blades are just rare despite hte CS logo - like the elusive green linen GW. So it all depends. Just having the CS logo doesn't do much of anything but to designate it as a non-production run.

It hurts to say that about a SJ but it is soo true !!

I say Busse should of left good enough alone when it can to SJ variants//

But some folk LOVE the wacky-ground Busse's. Porkerson comes to mind. He might pay a significant premium for that blade. Ditto for them band-breaker knives. Sometimes the knife is AMAZINGLY awesome to me. . . and then I see the band-breaker. :(

But that's ME. Buy what you want. Period.

(I want a free NMSFNO!)

From the one's I have it's just the logo. No diff in quality. I've had a couple of CS's with a problem for that matter, but never had a reg Busse Combat with a problem that required sending back.

I've never special ordered a 1 of 1 CS just the way I want it, I would suspect those would be finished to perfection most every time since they are so costly and are done in custom shop.

Custom Shop models only appear at Ganzas and are MOSTLY (but not always - like the Shiva Rex) one-offs or variations of the original design(s).

I like to entertain the notion that they also may get a little more special attention by Garth or Jerry himself; but maybe that's just me projecting.

They don't let the Busse Custom Shop grinders drink quite as much during the day. :p

so you're saying that the CS SHSJ is like icing on the cake?

should've probably used a better example to drive that point, seeing as how I just heard someone snickering that that's more of a win-win than an even tradeoff :p
