Busse Current Offerings

I am very new here and have been trying to read everything I can about Busse. When I look at the current offerings I ask myself if I would actually use an Anniversary edition knife in the field. Are these just to hang on the wall? I am trying to grasp why there aren't more offerings. Is this just a temporary thing? Do the anniversary knives command a higher price than their normal counterparts or are there normal counterparts? What is the philosophy here?

I have put in an order for a Ratmandu and am looking for another knife (at this point it would probably be a R3). I would like to have a Busse, but don't see anything I would actually use. I have scoured the for sale section and have missed a few.

Will Busse offer a variety of smaller knives similar to the Swamp Rats or is Busse mostly into very large?

Thanks

First of all, Welcome, and prepare yourself for poverty--although you'll most likely end up knife rich.

Secondly, as you continue to educate yourself on the process at Busse, you'll soon come to realize that Busse and Kin are currently offering more models for purchase via the website(s) than they have traditionally; many, more actually.

You'll also find that the forum exchange offers a large variety of mint blades for sale regularly--good luck and happy hunting!

There is nothing inherently more valuable about the anniversary models that should keep you from using them. They are going to make and sell a whole lot of them.

Same with Limited Editions. You just get the nice satin finish, which is great.

If you like the look, buy it, and use it.

Busse will normally offer a specific model for a time, then move on to a new design. It makes for many, many, many new designs. It also limits production of that specific model to what was made or ordered.

This, in it's self helps drive prices on the aftermarket. It also makes it hard to resist models when you want one, and know they will not be offered again.

It is an interesting production method, and seems to make for a successful business model for them.

I'm pretty new to Busse Knives as well. The anniversary knives, at least in my opinion seem to be geared toward collecting over using, but if you want to use it, use it. The Combat Grade would be the one to buy if you plan to make it a user, the LE would be more of a safe queen.

In regards to the Swamp Rat R3, I feel like you'd be hard pressed to find a better small knife that is currently offered by Busse. I currently use one as my EDC, and it's small enough to not draw attention and cuts through boxes with ease, yet still is strong enough to baton through wood.

But like I said, I'm new myself so if there is anything I've said wrong, someone please correct me!

Oh so much that! Like, 10 thousand time that. Love that blade.

Some Knives they used to make are still offered from there custom shop but are not listed on there website. If you see a model you really like,it wouldn't hurt to send them an E-mail and ask if its available.

Wow guys,

Thanks for the welcome and all the information. I guess I will be patient as I really want a piece of INFI, but smaller than current items. Seems that there will be more models this year as evidenced by the 2014 thread.

Thanks for your patience with us newcomers. I am ordering the R3 today!

I agree. In my opinion, Jerry's approach limits supply and helps increase demand by doing so. If all models were available all of the time, then there would be no urgency like there is now to buy one during its limited availability window.

The anniversary models are re-creations of some of the more popular models in the past, and are purchased by both users and collectors. The original SHBM has been immensely popular and is still one of my favorite Busse models. The ASH1 (Anniversary Steel Heart 1) was a very popular model, and was based on the original SH1 offered in the 1990s. The Anniversary Mean Street currently offered is a smaller model that might interest you.

Welcome to the Busse forum!

Thanks Pokey for the welcome. I have already subscribed while making my Ratmandu and Rodent 3 orders!!! Now can you expedite my orders:) Just kidding - trying to be patient.

Welcome to the family! Patience is a virtue that most HOGs find hard to deal with, but in the end it always proves worth it. The Ratmandu and Rodent3 are great knives! Enjoy them and be sure to post pictures once you receive them. Hopefully you will find what you're looking for in INFI.

The Anniversary models will actually have less collector value than their predecessors because they are current or more recent production in higher numbers. They are arguably better users too because there's been a lot of research and development in between, but the originals will always be classics.

They are also substantially different, enough that different people might like either one better.

They are all users, no matter how rare. A used 1 of a kind is still the only one in existence.

Allow me to welcome you. I too am a, relatively, new participant here. User of the forums and lover of Bussekin for a few years now. Good group here and GREAT information..... Also, no one takes themselves too seriously.;)

Stick around and enjoy!

Welcome!
I must warn you that once you own a Busse or Rat you'll forget about all the others:) The RMD and rodent 3 are excellent choices, you will love how they feel in hand. I have a Busse SAR 3 that is similar in size but I prefer the feel of the rodent 3.

Heya! Welcome to the madness! I am also relatively new to the world of Busse, but they're starting to add up in my collection, lol. As far as I've seen, they do offer some smaller knives on occasion, or there's always the secondary market. I just picked up a sweet Active Duty off the exchange here, then sent it into the Busse shop for some modifications. Just keep your eye out. You're bound to come across something you like sooner or later.

Also, I'm pretty sure I'll be picking myself up a(n) RMD myself pretty quick. Quite possibly even tonight. I've been eyeballing one of those for a while now, and I think I've run out of the willpower required to keep myself from pulling the trigger. Seems to be happening a lot to me these days. ;)

I just got my first Busse on January 2nd this year after watching countless videos over the years, reading numerous articles and comments, and finally fell into the trap.

Now I am waiting for a reply from the custom shop, and it's only been 15 days. Not to mention the fun it was sheath hunting. Got a maker doing an inlay in a leather dangler that will match my 44 mag gun belt down to the stitching, color, and metal materials. Can't wait to get that.

My Busse is a user, I won't live long enough to destroy it, no sense keeping it as a safe queen because I will never sell it, so I am going to enjoy the Sum'Beach and cut the he!! out of stuff.

It looks like 2014 will have a lot in store! Being signed up for the newsletter is the best thing you could have done to stay updated on new releases. Welcome!
