Has anyone ever placed an order with the custom shop such as a SAR 3 with no choil? Is the custom part using an existing blank and only choosing finish and handle material? I'm just curious where the customization ends. I love the CABS and may get one of them someday when the custom shop re-opens, but I really love the SAR 3 due to the shorter blade. I just wish I could get it without the choil. Choil less game warden would be great too. Is anyone able to answer my question?
 
Although a few models have had the option of no choil, I can't remember any custom orders of a choiless knife that wasn't offered choiless.(not to say it hasent happened) I've seen this question come up quite a few times in the past.
 
SAR 3 production involves making a choil, right?
I don't see why there should be no option to buy a CS variant without a choil...
 
The Custom Shop uses existing blanks to fill custom orders.
When the CS was open you could commission a custom blank at about $100 per inch of overall length.

Yes, Their Custom Shop is Top Notch, I had several of my Swampies and one of my INFIMandu thinned down, ALL came out Spot On, I also had the Top Guard and thinned down on my Rodent 6, It now looks like a Ratmandu on steroids. Simply TiT's, Beautiful Work. ,, .

Just guessing here, but IF the CNC programming for carving a SAR 3 blank includes cutting a choil THEN you would not be able to get one without the choil.

A few years ago, lastvisiblecanary finally got the CS choilless anorexic BOSS Jack that he had waited years for. That was the last really custom order that I can recall. Unfortunately, he had to sell it not too long later. I wish that I could have grabbed it at the time. Regrets. :grumpy:

Infact, Had I know this before the Gemini was disconnected, I would of had tge Top Guard taken off too. ,, .

A couple years back I called to see if I could get a TGLB in a satin finish from the custom shop and they told me no. This is when you could still order them on the website just not in satin. If they take existing blanks and make a custom knife out of them why couldn't they do the satin job? Doesn't sound like much of a custom shop.

Yeah, That happened to me with my Badger Attack Ergo, So I took a chance and still ordered it, Because all my Busse Combat are non coated, Tge gamble payed off because shortly they came out with the Steel Heart Ergo so now I had a pair that didn't stand out, Then they came out with the Ergo Battle Mistress, Now I have a Set. Oh and my Green American Flag Cerakote ASH-1 Magnum but that don't count, It looks good in any collection. ,, .

Thanks for the replies all. I guess it sounds like IF the custom shop ever takes orders, perhaps i could order a BUSSE CABS with a 3 inch blade and maybe get the handle portion skeletonized a bit to help balance (if needed). I really appreciate the feedback.

Just before the CS shut down, I sent a SAR3 in for rehandling and a full-zero convex regrind. What I got back was damn near choilless (albeit inexcusably dull given the original cost of the blade plus the CS work cost). While waiting on the order I was planning to sell the SAR3 off upon receipt, because it was a buy&try I didn't like much in its original form. When it came back it was thinned out and much nicer in the hand, so after a much-needed trip to Ban it's now my exclusive EDC.

Lol I figured as much, but it never hurts to ask. I just assume it'll be forever so I can only be surprised from hereon in.

For the CS, not 100% sure yet I'm still mulling over some ideas, but probably Ratmandu variation to start-I really like the blade shape; it's just a nice profile overall & perfect size for me. I was going to ask for an Infi-Du with a black/tan G10 handle.

Also interested in a comp finish SOB with the brown/black g10. I've been looking on the Exchange here in the meantime so hopefully can find one somewhere. SOB out of production so I'm not sure if he still has blanks for that one to be able to do it custom...?

Also very eagerly waiting the past eight months for the Son Of Swat, lol I don't think I ever decided on a knife that fast but I saw the intro thread and I had to have it.
