Busse factory edge

I need to axe a question: Is the factory edge on a Busse as shipped mirror polished sharp or is a little TLC required for hair-poppin' and wood choppin' performance? Just curious as I continue my FBM vigil....many thanks!

Wood chopping does not require hair-popping sharp.

That said, I've gotten them both ways. My Skeleton Key was dull. Proper profile, but not sharp at all. My black GW came sharper, but not hairpoppin. My Mud Razor? I could use this to shave. Ditto for my AD and snakeskin GW and PD. And the Hell Razor and SH-E I no longer own. (And that SH-E was USED!)

Typically they will come shaving sharp or close to it. You get an occassional not-so-sharp one. I've not done it, but a bit of stropping is supposed to help.

Hey Skunk, speaking of stroppong, Will the store ever be carrying the Busse strop again?

I've also gotten them both ways, but don't worry if it's not shaving sharp.
They're very easy to sharpen. I use the Edgepro Apex, and am able to get pretty good results.

The wardens in the background all came shaving sharp, the red one didn't.
I took it to a ceramic stick first and it sharpened up nicely, but I later sharpened it on the apex.

The picture doesn't show it well, but it's got a decent edge.

Few come with a "mirror polished" edge (I've gotten a couple of custom shop knives like that).

They usually come with a sharp "toothy" belt ground edge. A couple of passes on a stop usually shines them right up.

most are shaving sharp, some need a lil stroppin

This hasn't been my experience. Of the last 6 Busse's that I've received, only one (the HH) was what could be described as reasonably sharp. The rest were dull, with the GW LE literally being butterknife dull.

YMMV

That's great skunk!

Ps: Skunk I've send you a email on the e-mail adress from the BCS:thumbup:

most of mine were in need of a good sharpening also. I back ordered mine, about a month longer but worth the wait :)
