Well its Friday 22nd December and its a good thing I went back to the office this afternoon - my Bussee FBM is here!!

Yes, I've been one of the people who have waited almost forever for this to come out and its finally here.

I'll be honest: it's "nice." Well made, looks mean. But it just doesn't "speak" to me... kinda hard to articulate but it just doesn't do it for me.

I'll see if it grows on me over the xmas break - if not, I guess its off to the sale forums.

I just ordered a JunkYard Scrapper 4, so I won't be totally infi-less - I have plenty of big knives in the FBM category.

Anyhow - merry christmas all, and at least now I have handled a FBM "in the flesh!"

Daniel - I got to touch and fondle both the mag and std gripped CGFBM at Blade 2006. Though the steel was the same, they felt like a COMPLETELY different knife. For me, the std grips just don't do it on a larger chopper; the mag grips are a necessity for me. (And, "yes," I'm still going for the red G10 SFNO-V!)

Have you developed a preference between mag and std yet? Just a thought...

You didn't... he didn't say. I'm just curious. They make the knives feel radically different to me. I'm wondering if the opposite grip might not make the same difference to Daniel.

I got the Mag handles.
Maybe they're too large for my puny hands :)
(I'm a Medium glove size)

Is it just the handles? Cause I would imagine that someone could give you pointers on smoothing/shrinking them down a bit.

I just handled it again - and definitely the center palm swell (in various grips) is not to my liking.

I've got a Newt Livesay WASP with highly contoured micarta scales which is my benchmark...

I'm not going to beat on because I might need to sell it!
Thanks for all the concern - I'm picky about my blades that I keep nowadays (aren't we all?) so if it doesn't pass my 1 minute test, then usually it's a goner!

Actually it's not the girth - its the hump across the top of the handle that bothers my palm. Seems to hit in a sensitive spot in th middle of my palm.

Ergonomics is a highly personal thing - probably fits the other 99.5% of busse buyers perfectly!

It sounds like you need std grips, bro! Don't throw the blade out with the bathwater... er... grips!

Of course, a knife that works for one person doesn't always work for the other.

I'm **not** a dealer or even a speculator in Busse blades. I love 'em. Buy 'em... see if I want to keep it. I mull this over for a good long time, usually. They usually start out as a safe queen that will either:

1) Be rotated into use.
2) Be traded off.

There are no permanent safe queens. They either eventually "work" or they go away. The SQ/evaluation group stays on one shelf of the safe; the users have their own shelf (little kids in the house) or in the appropriate place for use.

I've only gotten rid of one of my users and it was replaced by an exact duplicate in a different color before I sold it. (Tyrkon was the buyer.)

Good luck!
