I bought this FFFBM from Justabuyer at the end of 2007 and it looked like this after I had reprofiled the edge.

I did a bit more work on it... just polishing the spine and sanding the handle to get a perfect fit for my own hand.

I also took the edge a bit thinner... although it is still heavy duty.

I also made a sheath for it.... I don't really enjoy making sheaths...but... I wanted this one to be lightweight and as thin as possible.

It works really well.

I checked it's chopping ability on some wet 1.5" X 6" pine planks.

It ate them with ease...so I checked it's splitting ability.

And it breezed through that too.

I tested this out at home just to check it's performance before taking it out to the wilds in February.

It has been said before..but..this knife is a very effective outdoor tool and I'm looking forward to testing it further out in the wilds.

Thanks for watching. :)

Lookin Good Soup_monger. I like what you did with the handle.

I bet if you can find ways to use that for a all around knife and camp axe it could end up saving weight over a Knife /Axe combo?

Or are you still planning on carrying a smaller knife along as well?

I can't wait to see your adventures with that knife.

Jim

Nice review and nice sheath! It does look very lightweight. I love polished spines, too.

Let us know how it works in the "real world".

Yeah... I'll save a few ounces... and I will be carrying a smaller knife too...maybe the BATAC...maybe the SUS SCROFA.

The FFFBM scores over my axe for it's one handed chopping ability... I'm not felling trees when I'm out..so the tasks for this knife will be limbing, removing wet bark and splitting.... and whatever else I find it can do. :)

Thanks J.

Nice! I only recently got an FFBM much thanks to Skunk and the very friendly hogs around, and having had the chance to whack some stuff with it, I can safely say it's my favourite Busse blade by far. Game Warden may be more practical to EDC (no kidding? :D ) and the BATAC lighter to carry on the belt, but the FFBM just rocks in destroying things. I'm afraid I need more FBMs. :D

Excellent work. I still have the factory edge on mine and it makes short work of 2x4s. I can just imagine how yours would do. Excellent work on the edge reprofile. ;)

BTW: So far I like carrying my Swamp Warden, as my small blade, with the FFBM!

Very Nice work Fergus:thumbup:

How do you polish the spine and leave the coating on the sides intact??

I'm toying with the idea of getting one of these and your a bad man for pushing me closer Soupy!

the polished spine is awesome and i like the sheath too.

Your mirror polished blades are awesome!

Are you achieving this with different grits of sandpaper alone, or is there some other magic trick you can impart on this sharpening newb?

Impressive job on the FFFBM, let alone the sheath:thumbup:! I really like the contradiction between the polished spine and the coated sides of the blade. Is this your first time that you make a sheath?

Thanks Crafft. :)

I cut the coating off with a dremel sanding drum... just the coating... just till I could see the steel... the green coating on this is very tough.

Then after that..I just use sandpaper and my thumb... I start at 180 and when I have an even finish with that I move on to 600 then finally 1000.

Resistance is futile, Stu :D

An Barker modified FFFBM would be quite something.... I'd like to see that.

Yeah... I learned my edge work from "Justabuyer" (He's a member here... somewhere)... and I use lengths of sandpaper on top of a length of foam camping mat.

I have made a few sheaths over the years ... and a lot of failed sheaths. :D

I had never made one this big though.... so I'm glad it worked out.

Nice pics. Great work on the sheath. Simple and clean, good attention to detail. Nice edgework . Thanks
