As the owner of a recently-acquired Busse Heavy Heart and avid leathercrafter, I want to make up one of those sheaths that carry a field sharpener along with the knife. Question is: Which field sharpener?? Must be able to iron out chips/dings, as well as put a on decent edge. Come on, guys, please let me have it!!! Any comments are appreciated!!!

I'm not sure exactly what you mean. If you want to attach the sharpener directly to the outside of the sheath, Ragnar Benson http://www.ragweedforge.com/SharpeningCatalog.html sells a credit card size diamond sharpener which would probably be suitable. He says he has used his so long he has ceased worrying if it will wear out.

If you want to put a small sharpener in a pocket on the sheath, Eze lap http://www.ezelap.com/products.htm sells lots of small diamond sharpeners.

I like diamond best for field sharpening because of the speed and convenience.

For those using English measurements, that DC4's size is about 1.25" x 3".

Another alternative to consider is the diamond rod sharpeners (EZ-Lap or Gerber are the ones I've seen) or the short triangular ceramic rods (I carry Lansky Multi-Sharpener (pic below) for its slightly more coarse texture than some of the similarly-shaped sticks I've handled).

EZlap dimond hone (medium) is a great field sharpener and fits on a sheath easily. This is what I use on my Camp Tramp and is what I will use on my new HH if I ever use it..

DMT makes a credit card sized diamond sharpener in their 3 different grits, coures, fine & xtra fine. I believe they come in 4"x2" & 4"x3" with diamond of different grit on both sides of the card. They are really pretty cool.
