Busse believes that a pure fighter should have serrations like his flying knives. These serrations start at the tip of the blade. The flying tiger and the flying mojo are classic examples.

What other manufacturers make knives like these with aggressive serrations starting from the tip of the blade? These serrations are on the top and bottom of the blade.

What do you think about these serrations and concept?

Thanks for your input.

The old gerber command 1 had serrations starting about 1/4 back from the tip. That's the only production knife I've seen that way. As for as for the serrations ehhh.

Not a fixed, but the Civilian / Matriarch were designed for slash-fighting purely. I think I've seen one or two Civvies that were plain edged but most were serrated to the tip.

I think serrations will and do cause considerably more damage than a plain edge. Also, knives so equiped can be used far longer than a PE blade without sharpening since the serrations act like a saw. Serrations also have considerably more surface cutting area. Having said all that, I hate them. I like the utility and ease of sharpening of the PE blades.

The nastiest of all serrations are the ones that Kit Carson does. They are an inverted scoop and they can be razor sharp and are easier to sharpen than other serrations and cut like crazy. The worst are the ones that Cold Steel puts on their folders. They are tiny and look more like a steak knife type serration.

I carry a Victorinox One-Hander and it has the front of the blade serrated and the rear plain edged. Just like you would find on a steak knife and I love that arrangement but I don't carry with self defense in mind. I have never liked the serrations on the rear of a knife and would prefer an all serrated knife or a plain edge knife.

If you have ever cut yourself with a serrated knife you know how much more it hurts than a cut from a sharp pe knife, on the other hand I can see a serrated knife getting hung up in heavy winter clothing or a vest. In a combat situation, I think I would prefer a plain edge.

What type of serration's do you think proper for the task?

For example do you like the serration's on the REKAT HOBBIT?

What others?

Is there a knife that works but needs serration's? Is there a custom knife manufacturer who could put on serration's?

The "serrations" on the back of the blade on the REKAT Hobbit and the Al Mar Warrior were designed for trapping moves while using the knife in a reverse grip. The idea being they would snag flesh & clothes better.

Okay, Rekat Hobbit serration's are not the proper for a regular fighting knife.Regular means non reverse, such as the Busse Flying tiger.

Whose or what type of serration's are the proper design?

I never seen any serration's on a bowie knife. Is a 10 to 11 inch Bagwell type bowie NOT need any serration's?

Would serration's help in a back cut, on a bowie knife?

Never seen any serration's on a Szabo UUK combat.

Logic seems that maybe serration's might improve a 7 to 8 inch knife.

Your thoughts are most welcomed.

IF you're going to be in actual knife fight that may, and probably will involve slashing, then yes, I think it will make a difference, but the chances of that happening in modern warfare is very little. I think a lot more stabbing probably happens on the few occasions that it does.
