Hello guys!

I am very new to busse knives. Keep hearing how great they are, and would like to try one out. My usage would be backpacking, hiking, and camping. Looking at my past knives, I prefer blades that are 5-7" and full-flat-ground. The knife should be able to baton firewood, maybe some light chopping, and other basic camp chores, while not being overly heavy. All of the names are very confusing to me, do you think you could recommend me some busse blades for my purposes? Pictures would be great:) If you could also give me some idea of what to expect with pricing, that would be helpful. Also, I think I would prefer the uncoated blade. How much of a premium do those demand? I'm thinking about selling, or trading my crk shadow iv to get whatever busse I decide on.

EDIT:
Thanks for your help everyone! I think I'm going to try to get a tglb, in competition finish. It seems like a popular model, and a good way to start to get into busse knives. Wish me luck! And if anyone has a tglb competition finish, and wants to trade for a crk shadow IV, you know who to ask:)

The Team Gemini Light Brigade or TGLB is on the Busse website now. You can't go wrong with it. It's an excellent knife. Pretty much fits your criteria.

Ash1.... Perhaps the "skinny" model would suit you best.

I believe that this blade is thicker than a skinny model. But you could get a combat grade (blade is coated) .... At least, with this picture you get an idea of handle & blade shape.

Lololol... Thanks to engineerciv for correcting my warped vision.....

The SFNO is another great choice.... Pictured here in satin finish...

Thats a satin finish on the blade so more $ and I believe that the blade is thicker than a skinny model. But you could get a combat grade (blade is coated) .... At least, with this picture you get an idea of handle & blade shape.

That is an SFNO not an ASH-1;) lol

I'd say go with NMSFNO -- it'll do everything you need. You could also go with TGLB, Sarsquatch, FSH, or a Rodent 6 from Swamp Rat

At 1/4" thick and weighing 12 oz with Res-C handle, the Basic 7 is lighter and stronger than most Busse’s in its size class, long enough with enough forward balance for efficient chopping/batonning but not so long that point work is awkward, has the best of Busse ergonomics IMO with insulation from cold/vibration/electrical shock, plus a standard asymmetrical edge grind that is one of the strongest, most efficient cutting edge geometries and IMO the easiest to sharpen in the field.

Expect to pay $350 with sheath on the Exchange here.

Will sure does love his Basics -- as you can see you have many different options. There are simpler knives, more exotic knives, and ones that purely practical in that they offer the max in performance/weight ratio. Good luck! Something tells me you'll buy more than one.

I would recommend either a Boss Jack CG or Desert Storm Fighter, 1st and 3rd knives from the top in the photo below.

The Boss Jack is a 6" blade and weighs about 11.7 oz. The Desert Storm Fighter has an 8" blade and weighs 14-15 oz.

They are both lightweight, have a weight forward balance that allows for respectable chopping and as compact as you can get in terms of footprint they occupy on a belt.

+1 on the Basic 7 (or 8)
