Hi Hogs!

Which model Busse do you all recommend for bushcraft? I would like something small or smaller than my ASH-1 but above all, it must be INFI.

Any recommendations and personal experience are appreciated!

i´m pretty new to busse myself but imo it would prbly be a BAIII
if my 2 cents are worth anything:)

i really like my active duty, game wardens do ok also.
if ya like a bit mo' blade a meaner street fits ze' bill...
any of these imo, will do you very well.

btw, for a general camp/hike blade, i really like the skinny ash.

let us know what ya go with.

ABA or BAIII are all I would seriously consider. IMO, they are the best of the Busse line for such a task. And even then, there are non INFI blades custom made for bushcraft that will give those Busses a run for the $. The best example of this that comes to mind is the Koster Bushcraft.

ABA(anorexic BAIII) would be my first choice, but they are hard to find and expensive.

One of the more recent Meaners at .170 might fit the bill and would be much less expensive and easy to find.

The straight handle of the Cultie makes it a good choice as well, buts its only a 3.5" blade and most BC knives are at 4". Its a great bushcraft design though with a great handle and very light.

Lean Meaner street would be my choice for true bushcrafting.

Koster hmmm...thats a nice looking knife

Comparison shots. Sorry, don't have a LrMrS yet. It would fall between the Koster and the CS AD.
Top to bottom Busse GW-LE, Busse CS-AD, Koster Bushcrafter, BRKT Aurora, Busse CS-ABA

Hey guys, noob question here. Why do you all seem to recommend a smaller blade (4" it seems like) for bushcraft. I didn't know the strict definition of bushcraft so I looked it up on wikipedia (which is always right :D). It defines it as "a long-term extension of survival skills".

I'd think for a survival situation, even long term, a bigger knife (like say my NMSFNO which is coming :D) would be more helpful. You know, something big enough to defend yourself from critters with, hack brush/ chop stuff if you need to, and still cut small stuff. Obviously for whittling, etc., a small blade would be much better.

I know next to nothing about knives, so please help me out (or point me in the direction of a thread dealing with knife usage).

Thanks,
BT

I think the knife part is addressed here. It's only a portion of things you would need for Bushcrafting. Saw, axe and fine cutting tool (knife).

I think a thin Game Warden, Boney Active Duty, SAR5 or the Non-Tac Badger.

I use my thin wardens and a SAR5 and think they work very well for different bushcrafty things. On a side note, I just got my Scrap Yard Muk and its awesome.

I would say three different knives that are affordable and good for bushcraft would be a game warden, meaner street, or a badger attack.

oops, the active duty as well

the Sar5 is a good choice if you want something a bit bigger than an AD or Game Warden... some people don't like 'em but that just means you can still get 'em cheap (for INFI)

Here is one i recently stripped next to a BAD for comparison:thumbup:

fitzodaggers

Ya'll are overlooking the Culti, I think it's a lot of bang for a bushcraft knife.

Granted I've usually have an AD of sorts, but I've put some millage on the Culti. I like its rounded tip and belly a bit better than the BAD , and it has a stronger tip.

For the times I'm not carrying a sharped pry bar :D

;)

I use the Game Warden. Notching trap parts, making fuzz sticks and food prep and even cleaning small game. This knife does it all!!!

I like the Koster bushcraft but I can't sharpen a scandi for the life of me! Well I can but they get real ugly!
