First this is my first post on Bladeforums so I would like to say hi to everyone, and thanks for all the pictures and knowledge that everyone shares on here daily.

I recently acquired my first Busse knife, a Game Warden. It was a user before and I intend to keep that way makeing it my EDC knife. The only problem with the knife is it doesn't have the Busse edge you would expect from it. After many hours of working on it with ceramic rods and diamond stones I have almost given up.

Does any one have any tips for getting it back to its edge it shoud have. Or know the price that is involved to send it back to Busse to get the edge back on it. If the price thing isn't somthing I should be asking I apologize, and just let me know and i will remove it.

Looking forward to hearing your responses.

Get you some diamond stones or sandpaper and a mouse pad or a belt grinder and put in some time making the edge you want. You can't be sending it back to Jerry every time you get a nick in it. Make the edge your own and then you can bring it back to sharp with ease.

Oh yeah, I forgot. Welcome to the forum.

Busse will sharpen the knife for free as long as you pay return shipping if I recall correctly.

Busse does not charge for sharpening. That service is free from what I understand.

Infi sharpens just like any other knife. If you can get a normal edge sharp, you can get infi just as sharp.

Nothing special about it.

I use both a diamond stone with ceramic sticks, and sandpaper/mousepad

both methods I follow up with a loaded strop.

I have had a few game wardens with edges to obtuse to sort out with hand sharpening. I sent them home to Ohio and they thinned them down and came back shaving sharp.

Welcome to the forums. If you are gonna make a habit of enjoying knives, you might consider investing in a good sharpening system. Although I hear a lot of folks that have success with sandpaper and a mouse pad, freehand was not my friend. I use the Edgepro which allows me to adjust to the degree of the original edge if I don't want to reprofile it. The trick for me is to be able to hold the same angle consistantly while sharpening. There are lots of ways to sharpen these tools and like they said, there is nothing special about sharpening Infi.

Man if I had a dollar for every "Busse Edge/Sharpness" post lately. Lots of new users lately!

You're probably not having any luck because the angle that you are sharpening the knife at is more acute than the edge. Use the black marker method to help get the edge angle right. *mark edge with black marker, adjust knife to stone angle until mark disappears all the way to the edge.

You can convex sharpen it, which is the sandpaper and mouse pad. Need a bunch of sheets from 220 to 1000. You can also buy an Apex EdgePro, which I have and love. A Sypderco Sharpmaker works too but you need the diamond rods and patience.

Or send it in the Busse, it only costs you the shipping to get it there ;)

Thanks for all the help guys, the edge is where it is supposed to be. Just took a little more time. The guy before me just must of been sharpening it at a different angle then I was working.

I think I might have a problem now, all these Busse knives just look to good.

You do have a problem.

Your wallet/bank account/credit card will never be the same :D

Welcome aboard :thumbup:, +1 for the sandpaper and mousepad / strop system for a hair popping edge. +1 for the YouTube advice,,some pretty good vid's there on the mousepad or strop technique.

It will take a bit of time so be patient especially if the prior had a strange angle setup,,but,,,there is nothing quite as beautiful as that final finished high polish convexed edge.

You can also hollar at Ban (Ban) or Nate (NorCal Blacktail), just search for them and you will be blown away at how beautiful a convexed piece of Infi can be. But be forwarned,,, you can cut your eyes just looking at the photos :D:D
