 Been a Busse colllector for a while just picked up a Randall 8 Trout and Bird on a Busse trade. Nice knife!

Based on your other thread, you came out ahead in the trade, in terms of sheer price. The 2010 catalog price for the #8 is $330, and that is with no options. I'd be curious to know which options it has, if any. A photo would be revealing.

Nice trade, Highway74! I've never owned a Busse, but they have to be great knives based on what I've read. Every year at Blade I see a throng of jubilent Busse aficionados milling around. You only get a following like that from substance, not hype.

Model 3's are my sweet spot, but I'm also partial to Model 8's because I love trout fishing so much. You'd be hard pressed to find a better trout cleaning knife than a Model 8.

I hope you guys don't mind me posting a few (not very good) pics......

I was privileged to have owned this one for a while. It was documented to be one of the 1st Model 8's ever made in late 1946. It is named etched to Fred Gillman who owned the general store at Walloon Lake in Michican where Bo's family had their summer home and Bo saw Litch Steinman scraping paint off the bottom of a boat with a Scagel in 1936. The Model 8 was Litch's idea and his personal stag handled knife (also one of the 1st 8 made) is depicted next to Fred's ivory handled knife:

I picked this one up because I had never seen a nicer piece of stag on a Model 8. It's ~ mid to late 60's:

This one's a recent acquisition circa 1950. I love both the blade grind because it has a bit of a "belly" and the reduced hilt:

Best,

I love Model 3's as well, my first fixed blade was my father's Vietnam era model 3 6".

I'm the opposite of the OP, my first fixed was a randall and i just got my first Swamp Rats.

Adam,

Can you post a pic of your Dad's knife? This is my Dad's 3-6 from 1945. He offered to let me take it to Vietnam in 1967, but I was afraid I'd lose it or booger it up pretty bad. I bought a Schrade Old Timer 150T which served me well.

Best,

Nice! I saw that one online and was wondering who ended up with it. It has a fishhook stone right?

Thanks, Matt! Yeah, it had the fish hook stone. I've always wondered what company made that stone and when I finally saw an auction for the stone and the box, the box was so beat to s#&% that the printing was not legible:

Best,

That box is older than I am (though not by much). And I'm showing just a bit of wear too.:)

Been off the site for a while, I'll have to get some pics when I can, happy with the trade.
