:confused: Maybe I'm making this up, but I seem to remember something about a lead weight sewn into a Busse cap. Am I having a "senior moment"? If not, how was this done? Was it powdered lead? The reason I'm asking is that a Busse Combat hat is for sale on eBay. I asked the owner if there was a weight in the hat and he didn't know what I was talking about. TIA
 
Busse offered a cap with a slab of steel (INFI?) sewn into the back. When this cap is brought down quickly on a wooden table, it sounds like a gunshot! IIRC, these caps were called Nuclear Blasting Caps.

There was a problem with some of the caps, minor scuffing and fraying. The steel slab was removed from these caps, and they were sold in lots of three at a reduced price. That's how I got mine. :D I believe these were called Blasted Caps.

Well, that's the way I remember it. Anybody else have any info? :confused:

Boiler has it right on the money except that it wasn't a chunk of INFI, it is a small bag (5 oz.) of non-toxic, non-lead shot that is sewn in the back.

I think that the Busse Company Store has some loaded caps in stock. . . .

in stock and no fray problem on this batch. as a matter of fact my wife has

knocked the $hit out of me several times with -0- damage to the cap.

It can also be removed very easily with no damage to the hat if you decide its too heavy. I kept mine in for a few months then removed the stiching that held the pouch.
 
damn. that brings a whole new meaning to, "my hat's off to you" doesn't it? I think I want one!
 
Yes, very cool. Thanks for letting me know that I am not going crazy. Well, maybe it's too late, but at least I got this one right. ;)
