I may be looking at a Busse in the future, I'll be carrying it on a farm and in the bush. I love the BM, but the price is a little high. So what would you guys suggest?

If you're going to use it camping/hiking...I'd spend the extra bucks and get a FBM or FFBM...you'll be glad you did.

Or ... you could look for a Swampyard Chopweiler. Less expensive, but a fine chopper.

I'm not in the market for one yet. But I'm always the type to do massive amounts of research on everything available. How do the Chopweiler and Dogfather chop?

For a farm and woods knife the ASH-1 is an excellent size. The FBM and FFBM may be a little more knife than you need for that. Look into the 6-7 inch blade range. If there's an option to get one around 3/16 or 1/4 vs (ermm, you do still remember how to use english measurements right??) some hugely thick alternative you'll probably be happier with the thinner blade, unless you regularly need to pry apart small military vehicles. iff'ns you want to chop though the FBM and Fusion Steel Heart are where it's at.

You get quite a bit more blade with the dogfather than the chopweiler. But if you would like my opinion... go ahead and get the Battle Mistress. You will NOT be sorry. It will chop a lot of hard wood and still shave hair off of your arm.

However... the dogfather is about half the price of a BM... so it is a very good value.

Good luck...

get a DF now, and a FFBM later when you have more discretionary funds available.

here's a Ratweiler and an ASH, side by side:

That's probably what I'll end up doing if I can find one up here in Canada.

go introduce yourself at the scrap yard forum, there are a bunch of canuckistanians there who might be able to offer some advice, and the dogs are all super nice.
