How deep is the etch on most Busse's. I know there will be variation, but on average, what is the depth?

Not trying to be trying to be facetious, but why would you need that bit of information?

If I had to guess it'd be a few thousands at the most...

I think he wants to strip a blade and then turn it into satin, yet he wants the busse logo to remain on the blade.

If it's a painted blade then it only just marks the metal and will be removed with light sanding, on a satin blade you can rework it a little before it disappears.
The answer is not very deep.

I stripped my combat finished SAR 5 and I could barely make it out. I completely removed it with light sanding.

I like the idea of someone stripping a coating and keeping the logo. Busse already makes the money they want, and resellers/dealers make the money they want. So someone who mods a Busse should be able to make some money as well. Most people prefer a stripped Busse, as Infi is fairly rust resistant, and offers much less binding when it is not coated. Unless if someone is trying to sell a Busse as mint from the store, I feel it is all good to try to keep the blade with the great Busse logo and strip it. The more open people are to Busse mods I firmly believe it will help the market and desirability for the great blade Jerry makes. Anyone can take advantage of any market, but for the most part, more exposure equals more money for the company receiving the attention.

I've yet to be able to keep the logo on a blade I stripped after I gave the coated blade a satin finish after all the coating was chemically stripped. I usually have to grind off too much to get past the dimpling to keep the logo.

On the Zilla, I had ground off most of the test team logo as well thinning the primary grind.

I have found that stripping and a light sanding might retain the logo though.

All other reasons aside, I actually like the logo, I'm happy that the incoming UG is sporting it and not just BUSSE as some of the knives do.

If I was to get mine stripped, although I'd either send it to the shop or get ban to put a satin finish it. I'd still want the original logo there, but thats just me.

Great answers all and thanks for chiming in. I think my question is sufficiently answered.

In answer to the "WHY": Actually, I bought an ALREADY stripped blade and can barely see the logo still. I had been wondering how much material had come off when I noticed the logo in some strong light, peeking up at me. It gave me some comfort to see it but then I wondered how deep it was etched. I decided just to ask :D
