Hey Hogs,

Hope everyone's doing well . . . I'm just curious as to peoples' opinions in regards to which knife would be the better chopper: the FFG MOABOLO or the Saber/CBT MOABOLO?

For starters, the CBT is definitely heavier. I think it might also, on average, be a little thicker. Does anyone have both? Any thoughts?

FFG vs Saber/CBT?

Thanks,

Rob Abyane

IMHO, you're on the right track with the heft factor helping in chopping, Rob...

Question is: Does the addition of CBT, but loss of weight, yield an advantage? I'd be guessing since I've never owned either-- but that won't stop me giving my opinion (thank you very much)....;)

At first blush I'd say there'd be an advantage, in the wood chopping arena, with the MOABOLO without CBT.

Slicing through weeds & spindly shrubs-- advantage CBT.

To find out with any degree of certitude, you've got to find someone who owns / owned both-- a tall order.

Then, you must find someone who's actually heartily USED them both-- another tall order!

Sadly, I've personally only used these the wilderness of my dreams :(

BUT, I got a CGFBM w/ CBT & Fusion Battle Mistress without that I have used to delimb & chop and I can tell you that I've found no discernible difference in light/medium duty between the 2, YMMV.

But where there is a big difference is in the looks department...CBT is WHERE IT'S AT!:thumbup::thumbup:

Nice MOABOLO Rob! I wish I owned both and could tell ya but I don't even own one :(. My experience though with the FBMs is that the CBT is usually a little lighter and faster in the hand. CBT does helps to stop the blade from sticking in the wood but it really has to do with the type of wood you're chopping and your angle of approach. From the looks of your pics that thing looks like one besty chopping machine. Make sure you keep your arms clear of the chopping area because it looks like it could take an arm off and then some.

After seeing Mr Stanley's video, I'm thinking the CBT might bind less. I wish I had the guts to use both of mine when the CBT gets here but I don't.

Honestly though I think we're splitting hairs. I have a feeling both models will out chop most.

That Bolo is beautiful, congrats. I didnt realize how thick they were..what .315+?

While I love a FFG, the CBT might, as some have suggested, be less prone to bind. vs the weight difference..? And the CBT looks are killer. So combine that w/ the fact that...I dont know $h!t...not sure how it all adds up but, hopefully we will see.

Is that a swedge grind on the Bolo you have..or are my eyes getting that bad..? Either way, great blade. Looking forward to a CBT side by and compare.

Nice score

Congrats Rob, I like the rest do not have a definitive answer, but I can tell you if it has the CBT I AM IN!!! The lines with the CBT just make the knife look so much Better.

Well, all right thinking people know that CBT just flat out looks better, so that's settled.

AFAIK, the primary benefit of CBT is to remove weight from a blade while maintaining lateral strength. In addition, the tops of the grooves serve to reduce surface area w.r.t the wood so that the blade should bind less while driving through wood. YMMV.

cbt is 8oz heavier in this comparison....

Mine weighs about 34.5 oz. However, mine is hand shaped micarta which is a few ounces less than G10.

Also, mine is almost 12 inches in blade length. Here's some pics to show that. It should be noted that my NMFBM is a bit "big". It weighs 34 oz and has a blade height of almost 2 1/8 inches.

Oops, that would make cbt 6-7oz heavier at the reported 40-41oz. I was thinking 32oz for the ffg. :)

This is my FFG Moabolo. I stripped it and it looks amazing underneath. Think big finish and satin had a baby..

The hand smoothed black micarta looks great on it too and so comfy

Guys, you are killing me--those are beautiful, I want one! As for cbt, I plan to find out about the binding in wood once my BG mofo arrives. We'll see.
