Hi. I'm pretty new to the Busse world, and I would like to get some advice. I just sold a Busse Custom Shop Active Duty on Ebay--I loved using the knife (MAN, its was easy to resharpen), but it was a little small for me. I just reordered a replacement--a leaner meaner street, and wanted to ask about three things:

1) Am I right in thinking this is essentially a scaled-up active duty? There's no other, closer Busse that I should try to dig up, is there?

2) I went with a black, non-crinkle (old-style) coating--has anybody used knives with this coating around salt water much?

3) I ordered thumb serrations for a better grip during fine work. Does anyone have experience with these on a Busse?

No questions about the sheath--I ordered a D. Brown carbon fiber just like the one with my AD--it was absolutely perfect.

Thanks for taking the time for a newbie's nit-picking!

Welcome to Busse forum :)

Are you sure you ordered a Leaner Meaner Street with a smooth black finish? That was discontinued many many years ago. Granted I could be wrong...lord knows Jerry comes up with surprise out of nowhere, but you may want to confirm that with the shop.

Thanks for the welcome! Yep, I ordered the "September issue" Leaner Meaner Street with snakeskin handle, and asked what might be a good coating to put on it, saying black was fine, but that I didn't like the rough look of the crinkle coat. I was told that the smooth coat was discontinued because it was too reflective for some folks, but that I could still have it done, no problem. I also paid an extra few bucks for thumb serrations, which I wished I'd had on the AD.

I hope it all turns out to be true. The guy I spoke to was, I believe, one of the knifemakers and not one of the usual receptionists...I guess I'll just switch to another color, if need be.

Better talk to "Jacko" about that first.....

Welcome to the forums, and good luck finding just one that does it for ya...

Lemur, the Leaner Meaner Street is new. Come up to the new millennium man....

Thumb serrations? I never saw that option listed or offered! I'm gonna have to make a call on Monday.

Hi, all. The thumb serrations cost $25, and sounded kind of no-frills but useful (I can't remember exactly how it was described, to tell you the truth). I also asked for the logo not to be added, and was told that that wouldn't be a problem, either--since it's going to be a (non-warfare) user, I figured I didn't really need a knife with "combat" written on it in this day and age.

I had no idea the folks at Busse would be so accommadating--I am now looking forward, basically, to the small fixed blade I've always dreamed of! Unfortunately, I was told that it would be a 12-week wait...nice Xmas present, I suppose.
