Hiya Hogs,

1. I'm not really in the market for a Busse at this point, but I am kind of window shopping to eventually get something in a small EDC type knife. I've looked over at the Bad Mojo gallery and I think the Active Duty looks like a good choice, but the Mean Street and the Off Duty also look pretty cool. Anyone out there use a small fixed blade Busse for EDC who can compare these for me?

2. What are the chances of getting a knife coated in plain gray? Like the light gray from the urban camo, without the dark gray veins?

3. What's the deal with the German knives being different from the US knives? Are they all made at the same shop, with different models being shipped over there?

Thanks!
Fox

PS. I made the mistake of looking at the gallery with my fiancee looking over my shoulder, and now she wants a Battle Mistress-E for dividing plants in the greenhouse rather than a Battle Rat. She seems to think the angle of the handle would be more comfortable. I guess I know what to get her for christmas if I want a Steel Heart. :(

Hi Fox

1. I carry both a SHBA and a MS EDC. The SHBA gets the lions share of belt time (about 85%) till the MS complains enough, then it gets carried. The SHBA is just simply my favorite Busse blade. The AD would probably be your best choice since the MS and OD would command much higher prices, being discontinued or special order. All make excellent EDC's. I don't have an AD, but there are many here that do and love them, and carry them.

2. Not good, unless you have very deep pockets. You might be able to get it done as a special order on a new knife (knives are coated before handles and final finishing), but to just have one blade done in whatever color still won't be cheap. Call the shop after BLADE and ask. You may get lucky.

3. Yes, it seems that way. Keeps the international secondary market going strong.

4. Bad idea. With BM-E's going for around $400, and BR's around $150.... Well, do the math. Especially if she works in a greenhouse and there's the chance it may grow legs.

I think the AD is a better choice anyway, as its edge geometry is better suited to a knife its size.
As to the finish, I think your best bet would be the double-cut, as it has a very grey-looking appearance. Is just a neat finish, too. :)

Count your blessings--she could have looked at the page/respective prices and forbidden you from ever getting one! :)

Best o'luck, and don't be silly...of course you're in the market for a Busse. ;)

atheist, you better pray for self control. :D

Busse: betcha can't buy just one!
(dozen)

Thanks for the responses.

1. Okay, sounds like the AD would be the best bet for now. I wasn't sure if the OD was going to make it into the production cycle at any point... As I understand it, there will be an 8 month cycle with two knives offered each month. Is that correct? Do we have a list or any kind of indication as to what knives will be offered in what months?

2. What I meant about the gray coating was more along the lines of "What are the chances that they'll make plain gray a standard coating?" They already have the gray colorant obviously... it would just be a case of not adding the dark gray stripes AFAIK. I'm probably being silly in not wanting the double cut, but I have saltwater sailing in my future plans, and I want the most corrosion resistance I can get, while still liking the look of an uncoated blade. Thus, a blade-colored coating. :)

3. I'm sure UPS appreciates the business. :D

4. I know that the Battle Rat would be the price leader for this job, but if I want to buy INFI, I might have to invest in some for her. Probably will end up getting her a BR and let her use that for a season. If she likes it and it doesn't walk off, then we'll see. ( I should have immigration crap taken care of and be employed by then also.)

Thanks again!
Fox
