I have searched this topic and found some great information. Some of these other posts (to which I give credit for this mod method) gave me the nudge to try it myself. Here are my results:

1). Needs yo self a NMSFNO (Thanks to RoNNiE - This things badass!)

2). Tape it up with blue painters tape. I used about 10 layers per side and about five on the edge and spine to add width/girth to the blade. Doing this will give your NMSFNO alittle wiggle room, not too much - but just enought to get the blade in and out once finished with the mod.

3). Remove the screw set on the bottom of the large Spec Ops sheath and use it for something else. You wont be putting this back in or the knife wont fit all the way down into the sheath properly. If this happens, the retention snap strap wont line up correctly with the scales and it'll be a beatch to snap shut. You really dont need it anyways. The plastic/kydex liner isn't coming out of the sheath unless you want it to.

4). Pull out the kydex/plastic liner from the sheath and preheat the oven to 350F. I usually place the liner on a cooke sheet so I don't have grill marks in it.

5). Leave it in the oven for about a minute..... SERIOUSLY!!!! 60 seconds and check. If it's pliable, pull it out and shove yer knife in it slowely (you know the routine)... I use my Wife's oven mit to hold the liner whilst performing this action.... That Sheezit is hot! Once the blade is in the liner to your liking, place in fridge next to cookies.... Don't eat those bastids....or the kids will cut you with your own blade...

6). After the liner has cooled COMPLETELY, pull out yer blade and remove the tape. Check yer fittin. If you don'd like the way it fits, repeat steps 1 - 5 and try it again. Put the knife into the liner and shove it back into the sheath...

7). Viola! Mine has a decent fit and it works as expected. I've done this with a Skinny ASH as well just with the smaller Spec Ops sheath and it came out pretty good too.

Hope this helps out with others who are verbally impaired such as myself. I needed to see it.... Well, here ye go...

Not sure if it's some issue on my end, but I can't see the pics.

But cheers for the tutorial anyways

Can't figure out why the pics aren't showing.... I've tried to download these a few times.....

I would love to see these pictures. Was thinking of sending it to Al for customization with my NMSFNO.

Hope these all make sense. Just refer to the top post and fill int he blanks..

Hope this helps someone. I would imagine it will work for many different knives. Be forwarned though, check the liner (when it's in the oven) every ten seconds or so. It is very easy to go too far and ruin the liner as it will shrink if left in there too long. Literally, I left mine in for about 45 - 60 seconds. Also - Be liberal with the blue painters tape. You will need the room on the blade area to round off the liner a bit. If you don't do that, when you go to put the knife in the sheath later the blade edge tends to hang up on the liner if it isn't inserted perfectly. Adding room by putting on more tape on the edge of the blade reduces that effect and makes sheathing the knife easy!

Thanks for this thread tiogatires. I followed your instructions, and they worked perfectly for me. I used a convection toaster oven, with a baking stone. I heated the baking stone in the oven, and my kydex insert was hot and pliable 45 seconds after I placed it on the insert in the oven. The kydex expanded easily to accommodate my NMSFNO. Thanks for helping out this Noob!

Nice! You just inspired me to do it for knife I had stashed away and it was much easier than I thought it would be. (it took 20 minutes or so)

I used a t-shirt instead of an oven mit since I can't find my oven mit.

I did only 4 layers of painters tape but I might try it again with more, especially on the edge. I don't want the edge dulling against the plastic. Also, the hole at the bottom shifted a bit when it was heated but still it screwed in fine after I played around with it. I think that's something to watch out for though.

Thanks.

The bottom hole will depend on the length of the knife being fitted. the NMSFNO takes up all the space in teh sheath so I couldn't get the screw back in without edge contact so I just removed it. The blade fits fine in there with no worry about the liner pulling out. Glad this thread has helped out some folks!

This worked wonders for me! Took me a couple of drinks to get the courage to try it but when I did I was very happy with the result! Thanks a lot!
