Just wanted to see if Busse has any events or visits scheduled for anywhere near Baltimore, MD? Or actually anywhere in the NY-DC corridor?

It is fully anticipated the Busse Combat Knives will be represented at the New York Custom Knife Show 02-04 November 2001.

The Sheriton New York 811 Seventh Avenue, NYC, NY 10019 (212.581.1000)

Yep, another member emailed me with that show in mind as well. Excellent, I'm gonna try to make a trip, want to meet some Busse people :)

Per Jerry Busse's earlier post on this forum, the NYC Custom Show promises to be especially promising ! Here is Jerry's quote from that thread - "....trying to gear up for the New York Custom Knife Show where I will have several Custom Variants as well as many pure, "sole authorship" custom pieces available".

"'Sole authorship' custom pieces" ??? Wow ! Sounds promising - Dark Nemesis this sounds like stuff right up your ally !

Who knows what else will be there, but the one thing for sure I doubt you will see is Nimrod's Satin Jack! :D

Contender, thanks for the info. I just called the hotel for more information, the "event concierge" only works on weekdays so I couldn't get the show hours. Since its right there in New York, I can just hop with the United Airlines Shuttle they run every hour to New York. The "guests concierge" said that LGA is the closest airport with a 45min travel on normal days, and just over an hour with traffic.

Figure this will make a nice little day trip, and I'll finally be able to see a Busse show table. Sounds like I better bring some money. Frick !!! hmmm, how am I going to get a knife home if I end up buying something...gonna have to locate an UPS air station in town :)

Please excuse my ignorance, but if you buy a knife in NYC like a battle Mistress and then get caught with it in the streets goin home cant you be arrested? I have heard NYC not only has one of the highest crime rates, but also strict laws on guns and knives.Just curious.

Really? How the heck do you get knives home then? Is it best just to leave them with Busse and have them ship to you after the show? Oh well, these are all insignificant matters that can be worked out.

Contender, that's because the SJ does not exist. This is a rouse; a widely disseminated, cleverly devised, well coordinated rouse - and one in poor taste if I could be so bold. I have not and will not fall for it. You guys have got to get up a little earlier to get the ol' Nimrod! :D

As a former denizen of NYC, I can say the crime has gone done significantly over the last few years. We just have a bad rap from the media and Hollywood.

As far as I know, you can still check in knives in your luggage. Check out this thread.

So it shouldn't be a problem to fly back with your new toys.

NYC does NOT have one of the highest crime rates, it has improved significantly in recent years. As long as your Busse is sheathed, wrapped protectively, and carried in a bag instead of worn, and you are not found with it while committing a crime, you will not have a problem with it.As far as the airlines, as long as it is in checked luggage I think you'll be ok.
BTW, my reccomendation is to fly into Newark,NJ airport instead of La Guardia. The hotel is only a 15 minute cab ride from there.

Dave

Thanks for the advice, I'll fly in there instead. Looking forward to spending the day in New York at the show and looking around for a while.

What Lifter said.

Newark is actually closer than either LaGuardia or JFK, even though it's in the beautiful State of New Jersey.

Juliani's administration has done much to clean up the city. I now can bring to the family to a Yankees game.

Thanks for the info guys!I must admit I am surprised to know that their are Busse nuts like me that are from NYC,you guys must go crazy not being able to go out and chop up a few saplings or cut firewood for camp.Nice to know their are knife people everywhere, kinda makes you feel safer.

I HAVE PURCHASED DOZENS OF KNIVES IN NYC, I LIVE HERE. AS FAR AS BRINGING KNIVES HOME FROM THE SHOW DON'T SWEAT IT, TRY TO GET A RECEIPT OR PROVE YOU WHERE AT THE SHOW AND DON'T DO ANY THING FOOLISH AND BELEIVE ME THE COPS WON'T MESS WITH YOU THEY HAVE BETTER THINGS TO DO.

Sure Lifter, they are concerned about crime in NY and you send them to Newark....lol
Nick

ps I'll see you guys at the show, one recommendation, get there early to get on line to enter (like an hour before), certain makers like Busse WILL sell out quick.

No so marsupial if you happen to live in the beautiful State of SOUTH Jersey where you can get to NYC, Philadelphia or Atlantic City quick and easy, get lost in the Pine Barrens or enjoy the Jersey Shore.

But for the taxes, the gun laws and the bad rap we get, it is pretty wonderful ... honest.

Yep, I was thinking the same thing. I'm not going all the way to NYC for a show and not coming home without atleast one (more would be nice) new Busse. Hmm, I want something big, hope there are some battle mistresses :D
