I think when I asked this it was lost in a thread so I'll try again.

First of all, what is double cut finish? It is a finish right?

Second, what option are generally available on a "standard" choice? Like on the regular F Steel Heart can you get different grips than the one pictured? Can you get any of the shown finishes on the site? How much are these options if you can?

Thanks everyone...

John,

Doublecut isn't a finish like the black, green, camo, and tan finishes. It is not applied to the blade like a coating. It is done to the blade akin to polishing. It is basically a bead blast to the blade - raw INFI on the out! It looks great!

As far as the options, click a bit further on the "buy option." Go to the secure server like you are going to buy. Go to the catalogue and then hit "buy 1 now." This will take you to the options page. This is well before you have to enter address, name, cc info. It will tell you what micartas you can get in magnum, normal, and the blade finishes. It will also tell you how much extra, if any, you have to pay for the specified finish. For example, black, tan, and green finishes are basic and do not cost extra, whereas the camo's cost $45 extra, doublecut $55 extra, and satin $75 extra. The handles have similar base and premium options.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
BJB :D

Hey thanks for the info!!!

What is the difference between the double cut and satin finish?

Is the satin more polished or is there more?

* Ok I checked it out and now I understand I think...

Going by the available choices do I understand correctly that double cut and satin finishes are not available on the standard model?

Satin is just polished steel. Look at the Limited Edition to see the satin finish. Double Cut is a matte finish.

Does anyone have any idea which one is more rust resistant - the doublecut or satin finish? I seem to recall reading somewhere that rust can get started more easily on matte surfaces.

Double cut is supposed to be more corrosion resistant. The ceramic medium used in the blasting cabinet is supposed to "hammer" the surface of the INFI so that it is more closed off. That is what the Hogs have passed along in the past. That is one of the reasons I went with DC.

I have heard that other medium (not ceramic) do open small pits in steel and perhaps provide places for moisture to do its dirty work.

but we have also heard that the dc finish is better for a coating of oil to hide in, making it more durible.

ok, when i was much younger i got my dad's sharade folder, i was twelve, the blade was already five..... it's about 45 years old today.

i have it at a hunting camp right now. it's not infi, it's not thick, it's old and has butchered many elk, caribou, deer and fingers. it has gone a full week with out cleaning after processing a kill. it shaves hair like a rabid barber!

i'm going to make a point of posting this none busse, inferior steel of 45 years old, to show how nice a satin finished, beautifully patinaed blade can and should look.

then you can decide what you would like the knife to look like when you want to give it to your sons or daughters

my dad would $hit his pants if he knew i still had that very first hunting knife :D
