Today I received a Busse Satin Jack LE by UPS and I was wondering if anybody out there can answer some questions. First: this knife has no point. Is that normal? The knife I saw at blade show west definitley had a sharp point and this knife's point is so dull that you can bump the point against an inflated ballon without popping it. Secondly: the sheath's retention system absolutely doesn't work. The strap that is supposed to secure the handle is too big around and the knife is in no way retained in the sheath. The jhandle slips right through.

These details can't be normal characteristics of the knife. Has anybody else experienced these problems? The knife looks fantastic, but it just won't do the job. Not any job related to tactical knives, at least. I would appreciate any input.

Thanks, AndyR

Andy,
Post it on the Busse forum or you can call the Busse shop at

Hey Andy...

The Satin Jack is a hard use type of blade..
It's not a stabbing knife,,but more for heavy outdoors type use...

The tip on the Satin Jack is the same as it is on all of busse CG knives such as the BM-E,SH-E,NO-E,BA-E... Theres not much difference...

Now on the Busse Killer B you will find that the tip is quite different..

Same type of a grind,, but is has a pointy sharp tip...

The Killer -B is more of what you would call a tactical or fighting type knife...

Your Satin Jack is made for digging, prying, and opening up Afgani T-52 tanks.. Although it make take a big more thrust with the SJ,,it will still stab decently...

As far as the sheath goes.........

I can solve that problem for you..:)

Drop me a note..

You should contact Busse directly. I'm a rookie in the Busse world. I recently bought a BA-E and a BM-E. I went to a couple shows and handled several of each. Each of the knives has different characteristics, even among the same type of knife. Some have pointier/sharper tips than others; some have fuller bellies. I like sharp tips, and both of my knives have sharp tips. But some of those that I passed on did not. Given Busse's sterling reputation, I'd lay odds that they would exchange yours for one with a sharper tip. Good luck.

They will take care of you, whether it be sending the knife back to the shop for a tip-sharpening, or exchanging knives. The sheath issue is probably just a faulty strap or similar.

Just call the Busse shop.

Well, the tip on mine is quite sharp, but after reading your post, I checked my sheath. The liner holds it in place decently, but the strap really doesn't do anything! I was surprised to discover this, and I'm glad I hadn't strapped it inverted on a pack or anything since it can shake free over time. I guess I'll either need to change the strap (it is easily removed as it is velcrod in place) or name a new one for myself.
