After reading the Dark Nemesis thread about the different handles and when they were released, I started thinking(dangerous I know

) It would be nice to have a reference to what and when certain knife styles were released. What do you guys think, would this be beneficial to you? I was thinking something along the lines of the knife name, handle/bolt style, steel used, finish, sheath and when released. I would probably not include variants as this could get difficult when there are so many one of a kinds. However, variants(protos) such as the LMS's without talon holes would be included.
What do you guys think?
Should I include other things?
Much of this info is before I owned any Busses so any help on styles and dates would be appreciated. If I get enough input I will gather the info and try to post it.

Eric--

That would be a very useful resource, and I for one would love to have it handy. Maybe Jerry or Dave @ Busse could help develop the list and timetable. Some indication of which models were made in which steels would be a great help, too, obviously.

Thanks very much for the offer, Eric. Great Idea!

Thanks Will and V-man,

Will, I hope to gather as much info about all the different models here and then have someone "in the know" look it over. That way I don't take up too much time for anyone else.

Such a reference would b greatly appreciated. I am starting to develope a fondness for Busse knives that is sure to grow over time. I've missed out on a lot, but would love to play catch-up. Let us know if this actually comes to fruition. Thanks

Eric - that's a great idea.

I picture a "Family Tree" of Busse's, with Grand-daddy Busse and his brothers on top (Jerry's first and other early custom creations). Just below we'd see "Daddy," an original Steel Heart. Branching down would be a Steel Heart II, Battle Mistress, etc... Then there'd be cousin Basics off to one side, cousin Variants on the other, and some Test Tube Baby Busse Mutations (custom shop

) strewn about. There'd have to be some room for the European cousins, the single-production run knives (LMS for example), etc...

It would be quite a task, but if done well (include pictures

) it would be an awesome addition to the Busse Combat website and an invaluable resource for collectors.

Just what I have been thinking.
I thought of "The Gallery" a space for pics of Busse blades and origin info, variants, etc.

OK, there seems to be some interest in this project, now who is going to volunteer to do it.

I will need some help on the early models as that was before I was a Busse user/collector. Feel free to tell me what you know either via email or this thread and I will get it all put together. Thanks for the input, now the real work starts

Valmet has developed a list like that for Microtach knives. (you can find it at knifeforums.com under the Microtech forum) It has a discription of all the different knives, The dates they were made, Approximate number of each made and current approximate value.

It would be a big project for whom ever undertook it but it would really be a big help.

Go for it.

Phil

Phil,
Besides Busse knives the only other knife I have any number of is MT. That list gave me the inspiration. I have a feeling mine might not be as comprehensive but I will do my best.

Thanks

there is a list that was put together. i don't remember who did it. way to dig up a thread by the way.

If you're going to put this on a different website with search, sort, filter, etc., I volunteer to take care of that technical coding part at no cost, but will need the hosting and technology made available.

It might be going way beyond the original scope, though. I thought something like this would be real helpful to me when I first started getting into Busse, and even now if I just want to browse around.

Guys,
This was an idea I had 11 years ago(check original posting date). I didn't ever complete it but I believe that Last Visible Canary did get something going a few years ago. Don't know if it is up to date but a little digging should bring it up.

my hat is off to you good sir
that is quite the generous offer
something like this would be wonderfully helpful
and the timing couldnt be any better

but yeah swanson should win an award or something
11 year old thread! ahahahaha WOW

I think badmojo.tv was probably the closest source till it was no longer maintained and has since disappeared. I think you can get an idea for more current productions with an archive but not beyond that.
